the ad and price seem fair - details listed make up a eneric 396 moto - nothing too special but a fresh motor is worth that price
I'd call and talk to the seller and see if he's a good guy with some building experience. or who did build the motor etc
good luck!

For what its worth,I bought my BBC off of ebay.

That sounds ok,price is pretty cheap...I'd call him up and talk to him, sometimes you can tell if their shady people or not just by talking to and asking questions. Stuff like if he has the camshaft card, what the part # for the cam is,what type of pistons, etc.

Its normal for engines like that to come minus an intake/carb and distributor.

pop up pistons go with a 3/4 race cam

of course they are domed pistons to fill the large open chamber heads and raise compression...it's an OLD motor

Double check on what you buy of ebay, especially if you are spending alot of money on there. Any thing in excess of at least 250 bucks should be verified so that you do not get scammed by some business. Otherwise go for it, it looks decent.

If he has what is described there is no damn way he can sell it for that, I would not want any stainless allen bolts in my eng., also too much BS for me. Be cautious!!! Danny Mc

I would ask what heads they are. Most of the 396 stuff uses a small chamber head that REALLY shrouds the valves if 2.19/1.88 valves are installed. If they are later model big chamber heads then the thing probably only has 8:1 compression even with the 'popup' pistons.
