?best stock sb heads and intake
Re: ?best stock sb heads and intake
the tpi 350 heads on the camaro's are L98 heads prob the best choice for you application they are almost the same heads (intake and exhaust runner wise) as older double humps but didn't come with 2.02's at all so that wouldn't be an option. now for the intake use a alum. Z28 highrise that came on the 69 camaro's. that is the best production intake gm put out for a single carb.

i have to run stock cast iron heads that were available on a production vehicle, from the 80s or older, and all i can do is a valve job, nothing else. i was thinking maybe the 350 tpi heads?
same for the intake... with all the stock gm intakes for the 4bbl what ones are the best. i was thinking it may be the 80s aluminum versions, but i dont really know.
im either running a stock(ish) 350 or 400 small block if it helps
thanks for your opinions,

I'm suprised that a Double Hump head is not allowed. More dumb cirlce track rules.....
the castings to look for then if they can't be double humps....
3947041 the 041 castings are identified with a triangle and are not easy to find. 041X castings are good for drag racing and pretty rare.
3991492 the 492 castings work well and have a GM part number so you can buy them right off the shelf PN3987376 is the version that has screw in studs. That would be the place to start if you don't want to junkyard or ebay it.
You might want to look at David Vizards books on this, since you basically forced to use things from the 80's or 90's.
You also might want to look at http://www.castheads.com/ they can really help in situations where you want say make a Votec head look like a 492 head. Or fix a Quadrajet intake to flow better.
BTW what are the rest of your engine rules? Is there a weight penalty for more cubes?
