Anyone ever used/heard the Comp Magnum 292 cam?

Ive got a 468 for my 79 Z28 and it has that already installed in it (the motor is brand new). Was just wondering if anyone has ever used it or heard it. The specs are .550/.550, 292/292 adv. duration. Doesnt seem like a wild cam but i will be driving it on the street and was wondering about street manners as well...not that it really matters to me b/c im 19 and "streetability" doesnt matter to me.

Thanks

In a large engine that cam won't be too bad, but it might affect your power brakes. The duration on that cam at 0.050 is only 244. I ran the 306S in my 350 and it was plent tame for the street. The duration at 0.050 on the 306S is 260. You will need low gears and a stall converter if you have an automatic.

Provided you have at least 3.73 gears, a decent intake, headers, and converter, absolutely go for it. It makes tons of torque in a 454, and if anything is a little small for my tastes. With the stock heads and 2.08 valves, the engine really runs out of breath around 5800 or so.

However, my cousin built (I helped) a 68 Camaro with a rebuilt 9.5:1 454 with stock oval port heads, Performer RPM intake, Holley 750, headers, MSD ignition, 4.11 gears, and a Th350 with a 3000 stall converter and it ran a 7.42 in the 1/8 mile. Although it does idle failry choppy, it is easily livable on the street for a non-daily driver.

Have fun, the above example was just an example of going fast real easy in a big block car.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm got a 383 spec'd for street use with a Comp 294/300 duration cam. If anything, I'd stick an even bigger cam in that 454, unless you're looking for all low-end *****.

Re: Anyone ever used/heard the Comp Magnum 292 cam?

Thanks for the reply's fellas..I havent been around to check this post in a while.

The cam is actually too small for me,but I bought the motor w/ this cam already in it so im just gonna go along w/ it for now...DEFINATELY could be bigger...

But the motor is going to have a single plane intake,750 for the street and I had a very nice 850 done for racing. Its gettin 2 1/8" headers, turbo 375 (turbo 400 w/ 350 short shaft) and 4.11's in a 12 bolt and a 3,000-3500 stall TCI Saturday night Special 'vertor.

I just want this thing to sound nasty so I can park it next to the rice boys at the local Taco Bell parking lot w/ open Hookers

Thanks again yall
