Cool 6sp tranny swap

Hi Everyone,

I have a 67 camaro that currently has a LT1 & 4L60E from a 96 Z28 & a 95 cpu. I want to replace the 4L60E with a 6sp tranny. I would like to know what I am about to get myself into. I know there will be some mods. Can anyone tell what I will need for this conversion and possible problems or mods? I expect some mods with the clutch setup and maybe the mount, cpu & driveshaft. My camaro was originally a manual but was converted to auto by a previous owner.

Also, would this be a worth the effort???

Thanks....

I'm assuming you're speaking of using the LT1 style T56? In that case there's a couple of nice kits to bolt the trans in without drilling a single hole. ATS makes a nice kit that uses the factory F-body (LT1) pull-off clutch and flywheel. If you want to run a standard earlier style clutch then Weir Products makes a nice kit that comes with a new bellhousing. I've installed both and they both fit perfectly. That gets the trans in; the driveshaft will have to be re-done. The other issue will be with the factory CPU; I do not know the specifics of that part, but am positive a company like Ron Francis can re-wire whatever is necessary.
