Is a 69 10 bolt and a 81 10 bolt the same?

My bother in law has a 4:10 gear set outta a 69 camaro 10 bolt he says it`s an 8.5" ring gear, will the gears fit in my 81 Z28`s rear?

Stock 69 10 bolts were 8.2's. So unless someone swapped in an 8.5 diff into that 69, gears won't fit. 8.5 has 30 splines on pinion shaft, 8.2 has about 25.

ok so if the gears ARE 8.5`s they`ll fit right, I`ll count the splines on the pinion to see if there 8.5`s or 8.2`s I hope there 8.5`s. The rear end these gears are outta is in a 74 nova, I`m think he said it`s outta a 69 camaro, but I`m not sure, would the gears be 8.5`s if the rear end is really a 74 nova rear???

If diff was originally from a 74 Nova, it's an 8.5.
