thinking of going to a big block in my '68, but I have an SS hood and I really dont want a cowl induction one. I also will eventualy want to go with a high rise intake, and have heard that some can cause problems with stock hoods. does anyone have any experience with this? will it cause problems? what about with the Yenko hood with the scoop? would that create enough extra room to run a high rise?

The L/78 engine package included a high rise manifold with a Holley. I do not think that you will have a problem unless you are thinkng tunnel ram.

 

I think you will have issues. The factory highrise isn't high at all compared to the aftermarket manifolds. I had a Vic Jr on mine (which is not the highest manifold around) with a cowl hood and I could barely get a 14X2.25" drop base air cleaner on there. No way I would have got any air filter on with the SS hood. As it was the lid was right on top of the vents which isn't good, although I did use the X-Streem K&N top to help some.

Alrighty, i had the same issue. I have a small block but my buddy has a 454 with a edelbrock intake and a 750dp holley.

What we both had to do was to custom buy an aircleaner that was shorter that the silly 3" tall jobbies, Also i had a custom air cleaner nut made by his dad who milled it out of aircraft aluminum to give and extra 1/2" clearance.

I have the part # for the shortest 14" round K&N filter if you want it.
