Usually when i put the key in my 67 camaro and i turn it, the red ignition light turns on, and i then start the car by pressing a kill switch. But now, when i put the key in and turn it, the light doesn't turn on, and when i press the kill switch, it sounds like it's trying to crank, but it doesn't. I've checked for spark, and i didn't see any. It does the same thing when i disconnected the coil from the distributor... Im pretty lost as to what's causing my problem. Could it be my distributor? Any help is greatly appriciated Thanks guys

 

check to see if ou have power to the coil

 

how can i check to see if it has power? im not familiar with this car at all... it's my father's car, im too used to my 90 iroc-z which has a totally different distributor/coil setup. thanks man

 

just replaced the coil and it does the same thing...

 

get a test light or a volt meter and ground the clamp or the black wire on the volt meter then touch the pick end of the test light or the red wire from the volt meter to both wires on the coil one at a time with the key on

 

there is absolutely no way an ignition problem could cause the car not to crank. if the ignition was bad, the car would crank but not start.

Id start with the simple stuff first. battery, connections, and starter.

 

i read that wrong i thought he said it would crank just wouldnt fire....definetly check the battery cables make sure they are tight and the battery is fully charged

 

yeah, i checked the cables and everything... it's all connected right, and it's charged too. it'll act like it's going to start... but it never does... there's fuel in the fuel filter, but there's no spark comming out of the plugs. i think there might be a problem with the positive and negative wire that go to the battery... anyone have any ideas how i can check to see if that's the problem? thanks guys... i think this is electrical/ignition related
