455 Build-up

Hey guys, I'm going to be putting a 455 into my 73 bird and need some advice on the build-up. I wanted to know if you guys knew of some good parts/combos to use for it (heads, cam, intake, etc.) This is going to be purely a street car so it needs to be legal, but I want all the power I can get and keep it legal. Any ideas are appreciated.

i belive edelbrock makes aluminum performer RPM heads for the ponchos now. Those should be 50 state legal and give a pretty serious performance boost, especially if you have some work done to them.

Actualy Eddy probbaly offers a complete Performer RPM package for the motor. And again that should give you some nice power, and keep you legal. although they ussually go with kinda weak cams IMO.

Personally I would go with the Performer heads, and have some port work done, an Eddy intake, and I would just pick a differnt cam. A 750 Street Avenger should work well for what you want too.

Wow that was a good article.

And they said the same thing I did, they selected a pretty modest cam, and said that for a motor that big you could really go higher, and make more power. Also those heads a 215 cc intake ports. Thats about wha really high perfromace heads for an SBC would use. LIke what would work well on a 383 or 406. SO for a 455, I would definetely have some port work done, it should net some nice gains.
