327 question.

So ive only owned 3rd and 4th gens in my life. Well one 2nd gen. Heres the question...i seen this for sale locally: "1967 327 small journal short block, needs rings & bearings.$300."

If you were in my shoes, would it be worth it to pick up this engine? It would be going into a 87 Z28, anyone ever done a swap like this before?

I've got a 1967 327 and it's a hearty little motor. I've been offered a couple of grand for the motor already since it's rare, so it might not be a bad idea to pick it up for $300. 327's are great little rev monsters. When I rebuild mine, I'm gonna aim for a nice 7000-8000rpm redline.

Look around. I've seen guys around these parts going to crate motors and basically giving away their 327s to anyone that'll come by and pick them up.

I've been tempted but I have a spare already and too many projects as it is.

Yeah, the fact that my 327 is a 327 and that it has double hump heads makes people want to buy it from me all the time

$300 is a bit expensive for a core engine that needs rebuilding. If it needs rings and bearings it'll need at the least honing and a line bore, and probably crank reground. As said before, I see 327's almost given away for 350's or BBC's. Its like the 396, or ponco 400, they're just not popular for some reason, but full of potential.
