Post 327 build up

our 68 all original RS convert/4 sp needs a rebuild on it's 327/210 hp mtr. Anyone have a good recipe. I've never rebuilt a 327 and don't know what combination yeilds a good 375 - 400 hp. I thought about putting a set of Vortec heads and Edl. Airgap manifold on her, but don't know if they will work with this motor. I will also want to go with the full roller assy in cam and rockers. If anyone has read a good article in their favorite magazine, I'd like to hear about it. Oh, I'll be replacing the Saginaw 4sp with a Tremec 5sp w/od that I purchased recently. The rear end is a 308.....I'm pretty sure. Thanks

George

You could make 375 with cleaned up fuelie heads, Z28 intake and a Z28 offroad cam. So you will have no problem getting there with much superior Vortec's, air gap, and roller cam. With your gears, around a 220 duration cam would be ok.

Car Craft got excellent results with the Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 268 flat hydraulic & cleaned up Vortecs on a Goodwrench 350. 400+ hp. With a roller, you'll more than make up loss from cubes.

Since you are installing an OD trans, why not put in deeper gears? Then you could cam up a little.

Thanks for your input. Has anybody used one of those replacement aluminum radiators and dual elect. fan setups on a 1st gen. Camaro? I could use as much help with the cooling system as I can get since we live in hell like temperatures here in Lost Wages....I mean Las Vegas? Anyway, I've seen many advertised, which is best? George

Cool

Use this link, and their search option. Use "327" as a keyword, and you will find lots of info. IMHO you will want lower gears with a 327, especially with an overdrive trans.

vortech heads will definately work, as would an RPM airgap intake...

Anything that will fit a 350 (aside from the pistons) will also fit your 327. Actually, the block (aside from the main bearing size, possibly) is exactly the same as a 350 - the only difference being the length of the stroke on the two motors.

on the gear ratio issue, your Tremec will help alot. If you're getting the TKO or 3550, it'll have a 3.27 1st gear which is lower than about any first gear on a musclecar 4sp (most were mid 2.something).
