327 Fuelie SBC
327 Fuelie SBC
Ok, its going in a 70 Chevelle. It is bored over .30 with stock crank. It has rebuilt/worked Fuelie heads, 490 hydraulic lift cam with 250 duration, 750cfm carb, edelbrock performance intake, 3000 stall, msd ignition, 275 Nitto 555's, flat head pistons, turbo 350, aluminum driveshaft, 3.73s in the rear, posi, long tube headers going into x pipe out the rear.
That pretty much does it. The car weighs about 3400lbs. I am hoping to hit at least mid 13's. I am curious to see what kind of numbers this car should be getting at the track with the dr's.
Also, what kind of cam you think I should put in this engine? That cam I listed in the mods is probable, still looking around for the right one. I want a nice hard lope and creates some nice power with my heads.
Anyone want to take a shot at it?

Re: 327 Fuelie SBC
If that cam is 250* @ .050, it's way too big. You would need a 4.56 or 4.88 gear to make that work. Something with duration around 224-230* would work much better with a 327 backed by 3.73s.

Thats the cam going in the engine... should I could go bigger?
What you guys think about a 112LSA?

Re: 327 Fuelie SBC
236 is still a lot of duration, especially for a 327. Experience has taught that it is better to under cam than over cam. I'd stil recommend ~ 224. Undercamming for your application would be ~ 216. If you were to put the 236 cam in your engine, then immediately replace it with a 216 cam, it would feel like the engine had 40 more ft/lbs of torque, and be a lot more fun to drive. A 224 cam would have a powerband from ~2,000 to 6,000. The fuelie heads are old technology and would probably sign off before the 224 cam does upstairs.
Wider LSAs make for smoother idle than closer lobe centers. A 108-110 cam will have a rougher idle than a 112-114 cam, but will make more midrange power. So if you want a choppy idle, get a 108-110 cam with ~ 224*.

I have the baby brother to your listed cam.... Comp 280 Magnum hydraulic in my 030 over 327 - It is great with my 4spd and 4.10 gears. I'm using 1.5 roller rockers, but suggest you get my cam and use the 1.6 rockers with it.
Really noticeable lope and idles with about 10lb vacum around 750rpm. Remember mines a 4-speed so I can wing it for some slight torque loss.
