2nd gen suspension recc.
Well, I'm finally on track to start dumping money into the pit, I mean, my car. I was wondering what some of you would recommend for suspension. It used to have air shocks but I replaced those with a set of KYBs. However, the front suspension is still stock. My rear springs are sagging pretty bad so I was going to replace those next. Anyone have any opinions on fiberglass leaf springs? I kinda read up on them and they seem pretty notch since they're lightweight but wont ever sag. Price is an issue though and I don't know how much they cost. Anyway, just any ideas regarding front and rear suspension, brands would be appreciated. I was looking to do a 1 1/2 inch drop up front and a 1 inch drop out back. BTW, I want this car to handle as good as it can get without sacrificing launching performance too much.

-Poly subframe, control arm, swaybar and endlinks.
-ADDCO front & rear swaybars, unless you get a used set of WS-6 T/A bars
-Stock rate rear leafs for an 81 T/A
-72 BBC front springs w/ 1/2 to 1 coil cut
-KYB shocks are OK....Edelbrocks are the shiznit from what I hear.
-Check over the steering components & ball joints. Prolly be best to replace them all if they're stock still. Sloppy at best.
-Matter of fact, while you're at it, better do a quick-over on the brakes as well, since you're there & stock replacment parts for brakes are really cheap. ($25-$30 for loaded front calipers)
Hope this is good for starters.

When I did my front stuff I got:
Energy poly bushings
new ball joints, tie rods, drag link, idler arm. basically all steering linkage minus the pitman arm
Suspension Techniques springs
KYB shocks
Addco 1.25" sway bar.
I can't believe the difference all that stuff made. Out of nowhere my steering is back on center, the car handles, 70mph doesn't feel like 120mph
, and the outside of my tires don't rub on my wheel wells.
Before I started the project, I had to fight the wheel because it always pulled to the right. The wheel was off center and the must have been from the poor alignment. Thirty years has a tendency to be harsh on front end parts
The way I went was certainly not cheap but the engine was out of the car so I figured I might as well freshen up the rest of the front to handle new power. I also got new rotors, bearings, seals, and pads since my rotors were undersized (meaning they were below minimum spec for thickness)
Well, good luck with what you chose to do

Thanks. I'll be ordering whatever I can afford off of my next paycheck, probaly the subframe first. I was going to get a set of those Edelbrock shocks (the dual mode ones that automatically adjust according to road conditions) but when I went to go order some at my local suspension shop the guy said that they had a lot of angry returns on them from bad performance and that the KYBs were better in general, and also a little cheaper. Anyway thanks again both of you, now I have somewhere to start.
For springs (lowering) check out the Hotchkis line of parts.
