1970 L78.... Trim Tag L78 and no Z27... Help

This is for a buddy...

I am trying to restore a 1970 L78 Camaro. It was used as a track car. The interior has been replaced with a late 1970s interior, and the body has Z28 emblems. I want to reinstall the correct interior, base or SS. On the Trim Tag there is only L78 stamped. There is no Z27. I would like to know if L78's where only installed in Super Sports models, and there for did not need to have Z27 stamped on the Trim Tag. I would appreciate any help you can give me. If you know of anyone that can help me, please have them contact me.

Thanks.

L78 engines were only installed in SS cars for 1970, therefore you do have a real SS. Hopefully you also have the original engine? There were only 600 L78 cars made in 1970 and they are highly sought after, especially with the correct original engine

The "Z27" on the trim tag is a debated topic. For 1970 the consensus seems to be that no Van Nuys cars had the "Z27" on the trim tag and very few SS Norwood cars had it.

Have a peek at www.nastyz28.com for excellent 2gen info. Follow the link for "1970 info" and dig in. The message board is excellent too.

Is it an original Norwood car or Van Nuys car? The Norwood cars will have the L78 but I'm not sure if the Van Nuys cars will have it. I've seen Z27 on cars, L34 on cars and L78 on a car. I think they mean 350/300 car, 396/350 car and 396/375 car.
