1965 327 Oil Capacity?

I'm doing a oil change on my fathers 65 Chevelle SS 327 today.

What weight of oil should I use? How much do you think the ol' 5.3L will swallow?

I know what I would put in my Zed but is it the same for an older V8?

I'm thinking synthetic would be nice for the ol' girl, but he's against it........mostly because he's cheap.

Opinions and suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks!

5 with filter, 30 weight, unless it has some wear on it, in which case you can move up a bit to 40 if needed to maintain pressure. Use diesel engine oil or an additive with zddp to protect the flat tappet cam. 65 327s still took a cartridge type filter... have fun.
