XM Radio?
XM Radio?
I recently bought a Pioneer DEH-8400 cd player for my car and it is XM compatible/ready. I was wondering what all I will need to hook it up and if there is an antenna that will receive signals through the hatch (don't wanna mount it on top of the car)? Also is there an activation fee and what is the monthly price? Is it worth it? Thanks in advance.
In order to get XM, you still need the tuner box and the antenna. Depending on where you look you can get the pair for $300-$350.
No activation fee, just $9.95 per month (add another $2.99 a month if you want the Playboy Radio Channel).
The antenna has to go on the outside of the car for optimum reception, the XM antenna is *** ugly, but there are a few companies out there that make compatible antennas that aren't that bad.
Is it worth it??? That's up to you....

Thanks Jimmy. I just looked into what I would need and I found an antenna that isn't so bad and a Pioneer tuner for $170 for both (Not as expensive as I thought). There is a one time activation fee though of $12. No big deal. I'm wondering if it would be worth it though since I burn MP3s and listen to those quite a bit. But the XM would be nice because there is already a variety there and it's alot easier to just turn the stereo on instead of having to download/burn 150+ songs. Thanks for your help. Any other opinions are still welcome.
I think you can put the Terk antenna inside the hatch area and it will work, as the signal penetrates through glass, fiberglass, and plastic. Do a search in this forum, as there are some pictures of an installation like this.

I had it, gave it to my mom. Put it on the rear deck of her GA. Also put quite a few on the rear decks of employees cars. One had 20% tint and it was fine.
I am, personally very close minded in my music, so the XM wasnt for me. They only had about 3 stations to cater to me, basically the same as a few of the local radio.
