What size are the door speakers in a 99 TA?

Im wanting to replace the old crappy paper speakers in my 99 trans am. What size are the stock ones? also, I have heard that aftermarket speakers never fit good in the doors. Is this true? and is there anything to buy to make them fit better? like an adapter bracket? thanks

1st off what system do you have in your car? If it's the Monsoon 10 speaker setup you have to replace the ENTIRE system with aftermarket speakers, or keep the stock speakers.. it sux, but that's how it is..

The Speaker sizes are 6.75" on both the Doors and Sail Panels.

You might want to consider making your own baffles to mount the speakers to. I tried using the stock baffles in my '99 T/A and ended up blowing one of my mid-woofers. On long excursions it was slamming into the back of the door's trim panel. This caused the cone to separate from the VC. The baffles I made lowered the speakers an extra 1/4" deeper into the door. The 4th screw I added helps to stiffen the door a little too. I used silicone caulk around the edged of the baffle to prevent any rattles.
