I can't seem to figure out if those speakers are just putting out mid-bass or full range sound.

Completely depends on if you are talking about coaxials, all in one full range, or component systems, which are a seperate midrange and tweeter. Component systems are superior to coaxial and not much more difficult to install. What are you looking to do with your stereo? And what kinda budget are you on?

Well i've already replaced the fronts with Kicker 65.2 components. I plan on having a box built for the rear shelf eventually, and i'm on a medium budget. Should i just use those speakers to try and get some midbass? It seems pretty hard to get any outta the factory design.

I would suggest buy another component set and then just installing the midbass. Unless you like having fullrange in the rear, then run a Kicker Coaxial in the rear for about half as much $$$. Are you running those comps from an amp?
