what is the procedure for replacing an amp only

I want to replace the amp and speakers on my 2001 camaro with the 10 speaker monsoon system but plan on keeping the head unit. The reason I want to replace the amp is because I hear it creates a lot of distortion. All I need is something that will play the music clearly. What should I look for in an amp? I don't understand sound system language so keep it simple please

This is what I have found:

It will require the use of two line level converters and then finding all of the factory speaker wires. You would add the two line level converters the same as if you were adding a sub. Once the speaker wires have been located , its a matter of extending them to the new amplifier. The new amplifier must have a built in crossover or the speakers will be playing fullrange. The factory has the crossover built in. If your amp doesnt have a crossover than passive crossovers must be used.

Thats too technical, what is a line level converter? Do most amps have the crossover built in? Can I just install the amp in the factory location so I won't have to extend wires? Any amp recommendations?

Thanks
