trouble installing Head unit

I went to install my head unit today, same one as in my 97 v-6 camaro and ran into some trouble. The head unit is a JVC kd-sx980 I went to put it in and it seems to be to deep. It is hitting on that tab that hads a guidance hole in it for the stock radio. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do? I was going to cut it but thought that I would ask first. If not I think I will take it to circuit city so if they screww it up, its their money. They are the one who put it on my 97 v6.

how did you bend it? It looks like composite plastic? Wouldnt it shatter?

I just cut mine off. My head unit has been running fine for years. No problems.

you could also put a 1/4" or a 1/8" trim ring between the cage and the kit to give your self a little more room in back

I think I know what your're talking about but not completely positive. If you mean that you think you're cd player is too long, then I was thinking the same thing last night while installing mine. I ended up fiding out that the new radio installation kit I had wasn't a very good one. It didn't have a tab that kind of recessed into the dash. You can see on page 4 of 8 on this page that they used the metal bracket from the stock stereo to get it to work.

Just break the stupid thing off. Mine bent back easily enough, but if your's won't then break it. It's not an issue as many folks have had their's like that for many years without incident.
