Third brake light wire route info please

Hi,

My car has been fitted with a cheap bolt-on-to-the-bumper fog light to comply with UK legislation. I have Euro tailights and there is no accomodation in there for a foglight.

My plan is to remove the bolt on fog light it and rewire it to operate the third brake light.

The power line to the fog light runs from a switch by the cigarette lighter, under the dash and along the bottom of the driver door frame and into the back of the car. I intend to cut and join this wire to the power line to the third brake light.

My question is where does the third brake light wire run, where is the best place to splice it and would it be safe/possible to have the third brake light working both as a brake light and a fog light?

(UK legislation requires that a fog light should be red and working independently of the tailights and brakelights)

Thanks.

Well, if you pop off the interior plastic that attaches to the bottom side of your hatch you will the brake light wire on the driver side.

It goes through that hole into the spoiler. Hope this helps...

Re: Third brake light wire route info please

Thanks for your suggestion but I really need to find the wire route once it has entered the interior so I can splice into the wire there.

Running my fog light wire up through the sail panel through the grommet in the roof and into the underside of the hatch sounds like a lot of work. Especially if I can find the brake wire inside the car.

I was hoping to find the third brake light wire running through the car to the brake switch. I lifted the door sill plastic panel on both sides of the car and found nothing, I lifted the shifter boot and found a bunch of wires heading towards the back of the car but I have no idea as to their purpose. I can't even tell where they go after the centre compartment.

I think I'm looking for a yellow wire according to the diagrams I've seen. Someone must know where I can find it inside the car.

Tell me about it, but I need one for my annual inspection.

If I can carry this plan out I would'nt have to worry about it again and I won't have to have that dumb light hanging off the bottom of my bumper once a year.

I think you answered your own question...

Pop off the interior panels on the underside of the hatch. Look at the color of the wires coming from the spoiler, go to the wires that are running through the roof into the hatch, find the correct colored ones and splice it in there.
