Question Tape player to cd???

I just bought a 2001 Camaro SS a couple days ago. Oddly enough it has the factory tape deck in it with steering controls. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can take a factory cd player from another camaro and just swap the two with no problems. I would imagine they both use the same harness but I am not sure. Any help would be great.

If you have a stock changer, then you'll need a Monsoon player from an '00-'02 to operate it. The '97-'98 stock CD Monsoon players won't operate the changer, and it's hit or miss on the '99 HU's that are able to operate the changer.

If you don't have a changer, and don't care, then yes, the '97-'02 Monsoon player will swap in just fine.

Hello...I had the same question, only I did get a HU out of a 2002 Camaro (at least that's what I was told) and had it put in my 2000 that has a changer. I can load the changer with CDs and it cycles through them OK, but the HU doesn't recognize it. The manual says the HU should show the CD icon (flashing when the changer is loading) but nothing happens. It plays the CD in the HU itself.

Is there a way to check the date on the HU?

Thanks for your help..

Ron

There should be a date sticker on the radio with month and year of manufacture.

Your description is exactly what happens when you try to install a HU that won't control the changer.

What's the model # of the CD player?
