switching from eclipse deck to alpine deck
switching from eclipse deck to alpine deck
ok my car is in shambles
i had an eclipse deck and a 4 channel eclipse amp powering all 4 speakers.....I got a good deal on an alpine deck so I figured take it....the alpine harness has a yellow wire with a tag on it "high voltage draw do not hookup behind dash connect directly to battery" my buddy said he just didnt hook it up and the deck worked fine for a year...but for me the deck wouldnt turn on without it hooked up but its late so i just hooked it up behind the dash for now turned it on and just the rear speakers worked sounded awesome but the front ones didnt cause I had a shop install them and for some reason they were hooked to the amp AND the back of the deck of the eclipse tried not hooking them up behind the deck just to the amp and they didnt turn on....so I hooked them to the back of the alpine as well turned it on and it fried 2 out of 4 fuses in the amp so i just disconnected the speakers from the back of the deck figured just the backs were fine for right now and now even tho the fronts speakers are disc like it was before whenever i turn the deck on it blows the same 2 fuses in the amp automaticly i know this post and long and rambling but im pissed off lol can someone exlplain this?

NEVER EVER connect the HU's speaker outputs to the same speakers that are connected to an amplifier. The only reason you would ever connect speakers like that would be if you were bi-amping the speakers. That would mean that the HU would be powering the tweets and the amp powering the mid-woofer. This requires a special crossover that has been designed to use standard wiring or passive bi-amp wiring.
The yellow wire from the Alpine is for powering the HU's internal amplifier. If you intend to use an outboard amplifier theres no need to connect the wire directly to the battery.

but it wont turn on unless the yellow is connected....and also the only reason i hooked the speakers to the deck and the amp is because thats what the shop did i dont even know how they did it....cause i got it back the speakers were hooked up i didnt realize til a week after when i took the deck out to hook up a preout and realized that there were 2 new sets of speakerwires hooked to the harness so i unhooked the speakers from the amp and the speakers didnt work then hooked em back to the amp and clipped one of the speakerwires behind and they didnt work so they had to be connected to both for them to work i have clue what the shop did.....
also as soon as i turn the deck on the amp blows 2 fuses...and while putting in the fuses with the deck off you get a little spark at the amp??? anyone have any idea whats causing this????? i pray my amp isnt fried cause ill go nuts...

The spark is normal. It's the amp's power supply filter caps discharging when you put the new fuse in?
Are you using the factory speaker wires? If so, don't. I don't know about your car but the Monsoon equipped Birds have 2 sets of speaker wires going to the door speakers. The HU powers the tweets and the POS Monsoon amp powers the midwoofers. Connect the Alpine to the amp with your RCA cables and run your own speaker wires if you aren't already.
Connect the yellow wire to 12v. I never said NOT to connect it at all. If you are not going to use the HU's power amp theres no need for the direct to battery connection.

no i had all 4 aftermarket speakers running.....with aftermarket wires....it was a mess so i went and purchased direct link cables...then just clipped the remote....but the amp is still frying 2 fuses as soon as it turns on i took the amp out and opened it.....a ground wire was fryed to the point the only wire left was on the bolt it was grounded to and the circuit board so im replacing that wire now and hoping thats all that happened to the amp cause i cant afford a new amp.....then im going to take the door panels off and figure out why the fronts need to be dual connected and rerun them so they dont need to be connected in 2 spots.....
