Subwoofer Help

Hey, I've got an important question for all of ya.
A few months ago I was shopping for subwoofers and I decided that when I'm ready to put a system in my Camaro, I was going to get two 12" Kicker CompVR's. I really loved those subs and since have been partial to Kicker. I really loved the sound quality and they were pretty loud. Since Christmas is coming up, I was in need of something to ask for so i said to myself, why not get the best subs they have? So I told my dad to get a pair of 12" Kicker Solo-Baric L7's (The square ones). Since I asked him, I've been doing a lot of research and I'm not sure if I made the best decision. I know the L7's are a lot louder than the CompVr's and I'm afraid that the L7's might be too much for a Camaro. If any of you are familiar with the L7's can you give me your advice? I like my bass pretty loud but not loud enough to give me hearing loss or break my windows. I have also heard a few things about the sound quality of the L7's aren't as good as the CompVr's but I'm not sure, is this true? Because if the L7's aren't going to sound as good as the CompVr's at low to medium volume levels I would rather go with the CompVR's. If any of you have a system that's compareable to the L7's could you give me your advice? (Like if your system is really loud, do you think it's too much?) If any of you have any input at all I would really appreciate it, thanx!

You will NOT be shattering any windows with 2 12" L7's. Don't worry about that. However, hearing loss... that's a different story. AS A GUESS, you would probably be around the 142db mark. Of course, that is playing test tones..... normal music will be lower. And we are talking about low frequencies. 142db at high frequencies would cause some serious damage. Your ears will still be at risk however, but I wouldn't worry about it. I'm becoming more and more concerned about my ears, but not really from my stereo. (145.2db) Mainly from work. Anyhow...... I think you made the right decision in going with the L7's. I recommend a sealed box..............for reasons I don't wanna get into right now.

IMHO, the square Solos are only good for real LOUD, one note bass. They have very poor bass definition. They just go BOOM BOOM BOOM to my ears. I think the older Solos sounded MUCH better.

I'm pretty sure no windows will be broken!

I can't tell you anything else, I guess I'm not a Kicker kind of guy

Ok, thanks for the info on the loudness...

Now for my final question... sound quality, do the L7's have poor sound quality compared to the CompVR's???
This is really my main concern, I would rather have good sounding subs than loud ones.

PLEEEEEEEEASE help!

thanx a lot

I feel that the new Solos are strictly SPL subwoofers and that they don't do SQ very well at all. The square Solos just don't impress me.

I'm gonna agree with LS1 on this one. Which is why I recommended a sealed box..... well that and the fact the L7's require HUGE boxes to achieve good SQ. Haven't used the Vr's personally so I can't really say as far as SQ goes......

If you want something better than the L7 for sound quality and can kick its butt in SPL look into the Digital Designs 9500 series. If you want actually GOOD sound quality i have to recommend the Adire Audio Brahma, or The Elemental Designs SP. Both will get as loud (or louder) as the L7, and kick its *** in sound quality. I have heard good things about the JL Audio W7 and Image Dynamics ID MAX, but i havn't heard either of them (i get to hear the max in the next couple weeks tho)
