Sub and Sub box question

I am wondering if the bottom (magnet) of the sub is supposed to touch the bottom of the sub box... the faster the reply the better, thank you. PM if you need more details. or email at camaroblood@yahoo.com

Did you make the box to small. How bad does it touch?

Re: Sub and Sub box question

Not supossed to unless it's designed that way on purpose...

Most often it's not supossed to, and is supported soley by the mounting flange.

There are exceptions, but they are very rare.

And being 9/16" too shallow is a lot, and I'm betting the mounting flange isn't even touching the box.

Re: Sub and Sub box question

If you look carefully you can see the small space, the guy said he can send me another 1/2 inch spacer and everything will be just fine.

Will the added hieght from the extra spacer cause any clearance issues when you flip the enclosure over? Just a thought.

Re: Sub and Sub box question

Your situation is pretty bad. The bottom of the speaker has a hole that is used to cool the voice coil. If air is not let in and out of that hole, your speaker will over heat really fast and wont be able to handle as much power. If the guy you bought the box from will give you a spacer to put ontop of the box, the speaker will fit. I think it will look ugly, and pose a possible problem when you close the flap.

Re: Sub and Sub box question

As is, the box, without the sub, has about 2 1/2 inches clearence between itself and the lock on the back of the hatch, and that is the only thing that will cause a problem, but there is enough clearence. Secondly my sub has a top mounting depth of 7 9/16s with the spacer he could send me it would allow a mounting depth of 7 and 8/16's or 7 1/2. Would this be enough however?

Re: Sub and Sub box question

As long as the sub's flange seals against the enclosure's baffle and the rear wall of the enclosure isn't blocking the hole in the vented magent, you don't have anything to worry about.
