Sub sounds horrible
Sub sounds horrible
A friend of mine recently bought a kicker 800.2 and we made a box with .75 cu. ft for each of two HE2 tens. the box is sealed fine, he only has one HE2 right now, running off of one of the channels. Heres the problem: It sounds fine while the gain is about half-way up, but anything higher than that it sounds horrible... really can't explain what it sounds like other than it sounds like a fart.
someone told me that it could be the crossover on the amp, or something in the head-unit. not really sure what to do, can someone please give me some suggestions of possible problems he could be having. btw head unit is pioneer 7400 somethin, and the sub isnt blown.......yet
Thanks for your help

if it sounds bad when you turn the gain up then you are turning it too far. DUH. The gain is there to match the output voltage and when you turn it too high it distorts, that is the way it is SUPPOSED to be.
Another one ...don't product manuals say this by now?
The gain is NOT a volume control.
The gain is there to match the amps output to the HU's output.
Find out how many volts the pre-outs on the back of the HU put out (probably 4), then look on the amps gain control and try to set it to where that number would be.
Once you do that, turn the HU volume up to about 80%, then, if the subs aren't 'farting', very slowly turn up the gain until you just start to hear them 'fart'. From that point on the gain, take it back two test spots, and that's as high as your gain can go, and, don't turn your HU up higher than 80%.
That's as loud as you will get, safely.
