Stock Monsoon Radio / CD player capable of ipod/blackberry input?

I have a stock Monsoon single CD stereo system in my 2000 Camaro SS.

I was wonder if there is anyway to use a ipod/blackberry withit. I do have a cd/aux button but no aux input. I do have the extra 12 v charger - but I dont think that will cut it.

I know there is an adapter for systems with a casette player, that they can use the adapter in the tape drive and then next their device via headphone cable.

Is there anything I can do?

TIA

There are kits available to add an actual aux input(with steering wheel control for iPod or whatver), which you can find on ebay, or Crutchfield, but they're a bit pricey.

OR theres a guide on here which I've done twice on separate cars, and works great IMO. Just 5 wires, a jack, and some soldering and you get an aux input.

Cool I will check out both. I dont want to take my stereo about unless I have too. I know that when I bought the car the 12 disc changer in the hatch/truck (what little there is of it - especially when you have t tops) might of had wiring back there.

But now I have all my music on my blackberry and rolling with CDs seems sooo 1990s.

I hate to modify the car any more as it just creates one more "problem" or at least a rattle or something.

Whichever you choose, you'll have to pop out the head unit. Its just held in by 2 or 3 screws(cant remember off the top of my head) behind the trim panel with the vents.

The adapter actually plugs in where the 12disc changer plugs into the back of the HU and I THINK, has a pass-through for the cd changer plug so you can still use it if you want to.

The other way requires actually taking apart the HU, so if you don't want to do that then the adapter is your best option.

I read your guide and I must say well done. You are much more "handy" than me. I would like to check out the adapter I think - do you by chance have a linkie? Cannot seem to find it.

There is a inteface module to plug instead of the CD Changer in the back of the stock HU, so, you don't need to open or attached other things to your HU

Kee Audio has it in stock. Maybe the audio sponsor of this forum has it in stock too

Thanks I was looking at this at crutchfield. But they won't give me the installation kit instructions without purchase. Wasnt sure how much of the dash I have to take apart to get to radio.

Well, You have to remove the radio bezel, unscrew 4 hex heads, pull out the HU, disconnect the CD Changer harness connector, plug in the Ipod interface device, attach the Ipod device somewere behind or below the HU and make the reverse procedure and enjoy. Not big deal. Th interface device has his own instructions.

I had a similar question(mainly referencing ipods/iphones) and you can find the recommendations/solutions here. Ultimately I haven't done anything with it yet, so I can't tell you the success failure, but here's the thread.

Funny I was just at the local radio/alarm/custom car place and they told me there is no way I can use the port on the back of the radio (where the 6 disc changer would connect). They told me they had worked on many of cars like mine and said the port for the 6 disc changer is properitary and will only work with GM system.

They recommend this isimple thingy -
http://isimplesolutions.com/ipod-adapter/TranzIt.asp

And they would mount a on/off switch underneth the dash and include a aux input on the front of the dash.

I don't know. Crutchfield says that this would work -
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_581PA11...5&ssi=0&tp=120
And I would just have a wire dangling and use the aux button the head unit.

Anyone know the truth or whats best ?

WRONG!!!

I have installed this device in my 97 TA Monsoon HU with CD Changer to use my iPod only. I had to disconnect the CD Changer.

Call Ian Kee, He's an expert in Monsoon aftermarket audio. Be patient his business is attended in his spare time.
However, Crutchfield's seems just right

talked with crutchfield - not so sure I have the aux port. Although I do have the cd/aux button on the front. Do all the units have the aux port on the back even if you got it stock w/o the cd changer ?

You DO have to connector in the back. Some of the early monsoon radios couldn't control the external 12-Disk changer, and those radios are the ones you'd have issues with. But you have a 00 Monsoon so you should be fine, but I'm not 100% sure what years don't work. I know that if the 12-disk changer was option in your model year, the aux input adapter will function.
