So I just got over mono, and i've been bed ridden for 2 weeks, and today I fired up my Z for the first time and the damn radio wont work (stock monsoon cassette)! Thew lights on the display wont come on, but the accent lights in the cassette deck are on. No fuses are burnt. I dont know what to do.

 

your best bet is to pull out the radio and see if a wire grounded out somewhere

 

I was looking for a simpler fix, seeing as its around 100 degrees out, and I dont want to bake in the heat. Has anyone else had this problem with the car just SITTING there and no real reason for it to go out?

 

well, the heat could have killed it I guess

It was sitting under shade for 2 weeks and never touched and the lights on all the buttons are on but no radio or lcd display, thats why it confuses the hell out of me.

 

check all the fuses, my radio in the Xtreme will display wierd stuff if one of the fuses blows

I had the same problem in my old V6, except the radio still worked (lights were out though).

Your best option, if you want to keep the stereo stock, post a "want to buy" ad on here for a Monsoon HU (you can find a CD one easily, unless you're stuck in the 80's and still have cassettes).

Or, buy yourself a nice aftermarket unit

Very likely, your existing one bit the dust, and they're not worth fixing...

 

If something would have grounded out, i wouldnt think it would come on at all, most likely its dead and your going to spend more effort trying to fix it and figure out what the problem is then you would working at a job to make some cash to get an aftermarket head unit

 

I found out how to fix it!

step 1: Get extremely p-ssed at your father, step 2: dump the clutch in reverse to get out of his driveway. Step 3: The wheel hop will jiggle the hell out of the car and then poof! the stereo comes back on with music blaring to scare the holy crap out of you!

Okay now this morning I started it up and the stereo is gone again...

 

Sounds like a loose connection. Pull it and check the wiring harness.
