Question Stereo that fills the hole and speaker size

Well Im more about the go fast than the stereo but 2 or more of my speakers are blown, so I want to get a new system. First I was wandering if they make a good stereo that looks nice and sounds good that fills the hole so you dont need an adapter? Second I was wandering what are the speaker sizes for my 99 z28 with the monsoon system? I know there are 2 in the trunk that I think are 6x9, then 2 in the back seat that I think are 6.5" and then 2 on the doors that I dont know what size they are.

Thanks

I think Pioneer is the only name that still makes a 1.5 radio that is a direct fit.

I believe he is correct, I know Alpine used to make a 1.5 DIN radio, but I don't believe they do anymore. I think Clarion may still make one as well.

I personally don't mind the adapter, but to each their own.

And personally, JL makes a decent sub, but there is better subs and speakers out there for the same $$.

I prefer any of the following: JBL, CDT, BA (Boston Acoustics), RE (Resonant Engineering), Adire Audio, Focal (A little harsh for my ears, but people still like them), MB Quart (Same comment as Focal), Infinity.

And you're hatch speakers are not 6x9's, I'm assuming you ahve the 10-speaker Monsoon system, they are 4" with a tweeter.

My suggestion if you are replacing everything is to spend your $$ on a good subwoofer setup (Subthump stealth box is a good choice, with a speaker recommended for the box), a good HU, and a good set of components for the front; also get a good 4 channel anp and you can run everything off of. That's all you need; there is no real necessity for rear speakers, most often it screws up the sound imaging anyways (If you don't have the proper sound processor)

Well I think Im just going to get the speakersin the back seat I believe they are 6.5" correct me if im wrong, and do I want 2-ways or coaxials? I just want a direct replacement. And if I go with a smaller deck what is one the looks and performs well, I dont want the best of the best I just want better than stock, and id like to have it be able to play mp3's.

Well, Assuming you have the Monsoon system (if you have speakers in the hatch area as well) then to replace the sail-panel speakers you have to either replace them with stockers, or replace everything. That's the bad part of the Monsoon system.

Most new HU's do play MP3s, just look for it in the specifications of the HU, most advertise it if they do play them.

You can if you want but there's no point in it really. All that is needed for a quality stereo system is the front speakers and a subwoofer. IMO, the only time rear speakers are needed in a car is if you have a surround sound setup. Click the link below to see my car's 3 speaker setup.

The Monsoon stereo speakers are strange impedances, I think some are 2 ohm, others are 6 ohm, etc (I'm not 100% sure on numbers, I don't have one personally, but I know they are not Standard speaker impedances); so if you put a typical 4 ohm aftermarket speaker in that factory location powered by the factory Monsoon system, it's going to sound like crap no matter what.

It won't sound like crap. It just won't play as loud since it will be getting about half the power that the factory speakers were getting.

The woofers in a POS Monsoon setup are 2ohms. Except for the so called subs in a Firebird which have dual 4ohm voice coils that are run in parellel for a 2ohm load. All the tweeters and the 4" mid in back are 4ohms.

Here is what i did with my 2000 z28. its a little complicated. I had a door speaker blown so i went and bought a new set. when i took the set out of the doors i saw it had two connections(one for the 6.5 and one for the tweeter) well i actually put the new set in the side panels but spliced the wires off the back speakers to those that way they wouldnt only play the lows. I then moved the side speakers up to the doors and since the tweeters were still good i put them over those speakers and kepth them in the doors. Then i put my subs in and by still having the stock hu i bought an adapter for speakerinput to rca. the speaker wires came from the original side speakers since those conectors were not being used. This helped out because the subs only have lows going to them and i didnt have to mess with the cross over hardly on the amp. so basically new speakers in the sides wired into the back speakers the old side speakers in the doors with the tweeters still over them and the subs hooked up to the old side speaker wires. hopefully this made sense and i think it sounds pretty good.
