running a sub,and a set of component with one amp ????
hi,
im looking to add a system to my s-10 also, and there isnt alot of space back there, and i was wondering,is it possible to bridge two channels into one for the sub,and run the other two into the component's?
i am thinking of the i think it's called 800.4 rockford fosgate amp,and for the sub not really sure yet,but found a awesome deal on the rockford fosgate punch hx2 10" "$109" and for components i have two sets, one is a polk momo, and the other is a infinity reference, both 6.5 and the polk's are 150 rms, each, and the infinity hold's 90 rms,so what do you guys think?thanks alot.

Some three-channel amps are just four-channel amps with two of the channels permanently bridged (cheaper amps), most use a class-D amp for the third stage (good amps). If you get a four-channel amp and run the front set in stereo and the rear set bridge you still have the option down the road to use it as a four-channel amp, can’t do that with a three-channel amp. If you start with a four-channel amp to power two components and a sub, down the road you can use it to power the front and rear speakers independently, you will need an amp for the sub. If you start with a tree channel amp, and down the road want to amp the front, rear, and run a sub, you still need to buy a new amp for the front. Ether way you would need one more amp. But a four-channel amp can be used as a four or three channel amp. A three-channel amp is always a three-channel amp, even though some internally are a four-channel amps, you can’t use them like that.
If you’re NOT going to change your system much a three-channel amp with a class-D third stage is the way to go. But if flexibility is needed, get a four-channel amp, you can use it as a three OR a four-channel amp, it’s more flexible.

Anyways, if you do have plans for expansion, then go for the 4 or 5 channel amp.
The rockford amp you are looking at should work great. The 800.4 should produce about 100 watts per channel RMS at 4 ohms. Hook your components up to the front two channels, set the filter to highpass (HPF), set the cross over to about 150Hz - 175Hz, and then turn the gain up slowly untill you hear distortion then back it down a little bit (don't turn it up past 2/3). Hook up your sub (assuming you get the 4 ohm model) bridged to the 3rd and 4th channels. Set the filter to lowpass (LPF), set the crossover to about 80Hz - 100Hz, then make the same adujstmens with the gain as before. A 6o amp fuse should work as long as you don't run it full blast continuously, and don't use power wire less than 8 gauge.
If you haven't already checked out my other post, I am selling an MTX 4202 amp (good condition) and Kenwood KAC-629S amp (excellent condition). I will sell you both amps for $50+shipping if you're interested.
hi,
thanks alot for the response's guys,i was pretty sure i could do that, but wasnt "for sure",anyways,i think thats the route im going to go,it's a reg. cab s-10,and i am going to put the infinity set in the door's,and the tweeters in the top of the door panel,"my buddy had the truck before me,and had a polk system in it,so i now need to but these back where they were to cover the mounting spots"but anyway, the polk 6.5 didn't fit very well,so that's why im going to use the infinity for now,anyways...
i had another question, the sub im looking at i think is rated at 250 rms at each voice coil, dual 4 ohm coil's,i would like to push close to that,if not a little more to these, but at the same time my infinity are i think 90 rms,i know i can push more to each, and they will handle it to a point, but is the 800.4 overkill,or is there a smaller amp that is also cheaper, and would work just as good for my plans,
and last but not least,it has a factory tape player right now,and im looking to add either a cd player or a changer,i can get a decent 6 disc pioneer for 100 ish,"cheaper than a decent indash player and holds 6 cd's"thats why i like this idea, and could hook it up to factory radio, but then i wouldnt have the preamp output's,what could i do to get them,or will it just be better,to go with a indash unit to start with?
to add to that,in the future i would also like to add a couple tv's or single tv either from the roof,or in the sunvisor's,and would like to tie this all into the system, and the system will stay as it is,just one sub,and a component set,not looking to add anything else beside's video components
i didnt even know they made 3 way amp, what company's produce these thanks alot again, sorry for long post....

tair,
thanks for the offer, but again,im trying to conserve what little space i do have, and i am also looking for a little more power then these push for my sub.that is a good deal however, and i will ask around, and see weather i can set someone up for you, thanks again for the offer.
