Replaced my head unit
Replaced my head unit
I finally got a new CD player in my '93. I had to replace the RCA cables as well, so it took a little longer than it would have otherwise, but it's very much worth it. I got the amps tuned in today and now it sounds better than ever. Now that my motivation for driving the car is back in place, I'll be more inclined to fix the mechanical issues the car has and get it totally roadworthy again.
For the record, it's an Alpine CDA-117.

For my purposes, it seems great. It looks good, sounds even better, and wasn't terribly expensive. I got it for 289 at the store where I used to work. The only thing I don't like so far is how the EQ is buried behind a half dozen menu options. My previous CD players have had buttons which were a direct path to the EQ settings. It's a small complaint in the grand scheme of things, though.
Behind it is a Crossfire VR1000D pushing a pair of Crossfire BMF1228's. The mid and high range is powered with a Crossfire VR404 and it's pushing two sets of Crossfire SQ-6.0 components. I got all the Crossfire gear back when I worked at the stereo shop. Once a year, as an employee, I could do a dealer accomodation purchase and buy as much equipment as I could afford at 25% of list price. I loved it!

I dont think Shock will respond, it might be a mini jack. It looks like it but I havent been in the in for a few years. Pioneer does make a bus connector for aux equipment so that you can control the ipod from the radio. it plugs in the back though.
