Radio Theft lock

How do I know if the theft lock is turned off? The owners manual states that you can leave it off or ingaged it. I'm not sure if it is off. I want to put a battery tender lead on the battery, but I don't want to screw up the radio when I disconnect the batt. I do not know the code, and neither does the previous owner. The system is fine buy me, I'm leaving the car stock, well kind of. The car sits most of the time so that's why the tender. I also figure while the batt is diconnected I'd look at that pesky drivers window, and maybe better door speakers. If someone can walk me through it that would be great.

There's a tiny red bulb next to the power/volume ****. If its on, you probably have the system enabled. Not sure if it's supposed to be on ALL the time, or just when the radio isn't. I disabled mine and can't remember, but somebody else can probably chime in and tell you. Getting rid of the code isn't that big a deal, you just need a bit of time to spare and a phone.

I used these instructions (from thirdgen I think) last summer to unlock my radio and it worked great, but there is apparently a time sensitive number in there, so not sure if its still valid.

Unlocking the Theft-Deterrent Feature After a Power Loss

If you know the code that was used to lock the radio then use the following instructions from the owner's manual to unlock the radio.
Quote:
Enter your secret code as follows; pause no more than 15 seconds between steps:
1. Turn the ignition on. LOC will appear on the display.
2. Press MIN and 000 will appear on the display.
3. Press MIN again until the last two digits agree with your code.
4. Press HR until the first one or two digits agree with your code.
5. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the code matches your secret code. The display will show SEC, indicating the radio is now operable and secure.

If you enter the wrong code eight times, INOP will appear on the display. You will have to wait an hour with the ignition on before you can try again. When you try again, you will only have three more chances (eight tries per chance) to enter the correct code before INOP appears.
If you don't know the code that was used to lock the radio then you will have to use the dealer's unlock procedure as follows. The dealer code changes over time - the one listed is current as of this posting. If it doesn't work try 08359 or search the forum for messages with a more recent code.
Quote:
1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first three digits of the display code are displayed.
2. Write the numbers down.
3. Press the AM-FM button, write down the next three numbers.
4. Call 1-800-537-5140. When asked, enter dealer code 202108, press the * button, and enter the six digit code from the radio. You will get an unlock code, write it down.
5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first two numbers, press the MIN button and set the next two numbers, then press the AM-FM button. The display will show SEC, indicating the radio is now operable and secure.

To remove the code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on the radio face indicating the code is now out of the radio."

Good luck.

BloodyZ28,
Thanks for the help, I haven't noticed a red light. I'm hoping that means it's diabled. If not at least now I have a code to work with. You know my bikes are much simpler.

i have a locked radio, don't know the code and tried the calling the 1-800 number and entering the dealer code. I keep getting an "invalid account code" reply from the 800 number. Has there been a recent update to the account code?

My radio isn't locked so I cant test and see if it actually gives me a code to use, BUT I got through.

I called the 800 number, pressed '1' for Chevrolet, waited a few seconds, then entered '08359'. It didn't do anything after that, so I pressed the # key, and a few seconds later, it said accepted and asked for my "4 or 6 Digit Code".

Give that a try.

went to the dealership today, they were pretty cool with me. I took the 1-800 number they needed to call and the six digit radio code from my radio. They called the number, entered there dealer code followed by my radios digits and presto, my radio now works! The unlock code for my car was 0822.

Thanks to the info in this tread i was able to get my radio unlocked with out having to pay any cash to the dealership. They were cool with all the information i supplied and it was no sweat off there back to simply make a phone call to get the unlock code. Thanks again!
