Re: Radar Detector Install

Just thought I'd add this in to clear up the laser confusion.

I went ahead and hardwired my radar detector up above the rear view mirror, and ran the wire through the roofliner, down the a-pillar, and ran it with a switch and fuse wired to my cig lighter.

Today, on my trip back from Wickliffe (near cleveland) to toledo (where i go to school), i encountered 5 cops.

There were 3 in my city alone just on my drive to the freeway, all taking radar with a Ka band gun. It picked up all 3.

Then, once i got onto the turnpike, just a few miles later there was a cop taking laser on the side of the road. How do i know he was taking laser? because even with my radar detector MOUNTED UP HIGH, it still detected it. Then about a half hour later, there was another cop on the side ALSO taking LASER and again it picked it up. I wasnt speeding any of these times, due to traffic, but it did pick up the Ka with plenty of time for me to slow down if i had needed to. However, for laser, im not sure because from what i hear, your very lucky if you can slow down in time between your radar going off and their laser getting a reading. Regardless, it still detected it all, that high up.

Also, i should add that there was very thick fog today on the turnpike. It picked up the laser before i even knew there was a cop anywhere around because i couldnt see very far due to the fog.

Re: Radar Detector Install

I had a cool idea before.. although it might suck too much to be useful. But for a detector such as the valentine one, I thought.. if you have your T-Tops off, having a radar in plain sight could get stolen with no hassle. But I thought.. maybe mount it on the REAR window, and get an external box (acts the same as the face of the V1) and mount it where-ever you want. (such as on the steering column, or somewhere like that). It wouldn't be in an obvious place, wouldn't be in your way, and would probably be hidden with Tint (most people probably wouldn't even notice it)

The only problems would be line of sight issues, and that it would be many feet away "back" which means further away from a bogey before it could detect it.

Anyone think it would work?

no, rear detection on most units isn't near as good as front.
