questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
i have a stock bose head unit and was wondering if the back plug underneath the gm plug is for a cd changer if so where could i find that adapter. my cd player on the bose unit went out on me, so i installed a panasonic head unit only to find that i have to bypass the bose amps that are hooked up to each speaker. if all else fails does anyone have a stock bose cd player for a 95 z28 or any lt1. thanks, mike.
Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
Go to crutchfield.com. They have a product from Scosche(SP?) that sells for
$40 and it gives you adjustable outputs so you can still use your stock speaker/amp setup. What panasonic cd player do you have? I have a new bose cd player I just installed 3 months ago that I might be willing to trade.

Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
For the record, this isn't LT1 tech, but I installed an aftermarket cd player in my car and didn't by-pass any amps and it works fine.
The only thing that isn't perfect about it is that the volume is pretty loud.. like i never turn it up over 10, when the head unit goes to 40.

I have a Panasonic unit installed in my car and we didn't realize we had to bypass the Bose system and one of the speakers doesn't work. I think I'll look at that prduct from scosche also.
Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
I have had 2 dif head units in mine and never bypassed the bose speaker system. A Sony and a Kenwood. I forget which but you have to hook up Two wires(I believe the power ant, and another) to the power or something like that. Cannot remember but this turns on the Bose amp system. Don't know why they all say it wont work, but you don't need to buy anything extra or replace all your speakers and give these people more $. I think that is the goal.
Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
I too bought that adapter thingie from best buy to make my pioneer head unit work with the bose. Worked good for awhile, until I fried the bose amps on the speakers.
Ended up buying new speakers and running new wire. I guess you can use your line outs on your new head unit and spice it into the bose setup.

Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
what i was planning to do was just rip out the door panels and run the head unit straight to the speakers, instead of head unit -> bose amps -> speakers. i've already replaced all the speakers with sony xplod after the stock bose ones blew out the first week i had the car. if anyone has any info on being able to hook this up without ripping everything apart please let me know a.s.a.p. thanks, mike.
Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
If the bose amp is in a central location (not familiar with the bose setup), and you already have new speakers in place, why bother running extra wire.
You can determine which pins are for what on the main amp harness, make some jumpers (I used 16 ga wire, and tinned the ends (applied solder to make 'em stiff)), then short out the appropriate pins.
I have the monsoon setup, and used this arrangement to power the hatch speakers off the aftermarket HU. The front doors and rear stealth sub is run off the amp. No speakers in the sail panels [for now].
There were a total of 4 jumpers needed (8 pins).

The plug is the same for the camaro & firebird, only different/additional pins are used on the firebird.

Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
DON'T NEED AN ADAPTER. OK, I checked my setup. Mine is a 95 so not sure if all colors are same. What I did is take the 'baby blue' wire in your harness. Connect the 'P. CONT' and 'A. CONT' from your head unit to this baby blue wire. It is the 12v signal to your bose amp system. You probably only need to hook the 'P.CONT' to it but I did both. I think because initially I only had sound with AM/FM selection. I only had the 'A.CONT'(or antena control) hooked on. So I just added the 'P.CONT'. This baby blue wire is also what I have my Fosgate amp hooked to for the 12v Power signal.
I hope this helps. I cannot understand why they all say you have to rip out the bose system. I can only guess that they are trying to make some extra money but everybody says this. I have since replaced my 2 rear speakers and wired them right up to the existing wires with no problem. I have 2 12" woofers in the back and still have my stock bose woofer running.

Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
what colors were the P CONT and A CONT on your HU? I have 3 12v wires, yellow, blue, and red coming out of the HU. I think you're talking about the yellow and blue, but i want to make sure. thanks.
Re: questions on lt1 stock bose cd player
On my KENWOOD HU, both CONT were identified and they were both dark blue. The P CONT is what I use to send power signal to my amp. So I have my 12v pwr to amp and baby blue wire from harness(I believe 12v pwr to BOSE amp) both connected to my P CONT, A CONT(believe only need P CONT as stated above). These CONT or control leads tell my BOSE and Rockford Fosgate amp to turn on.
When I say 12v leads, keep in mind that this is only for a signal that tells these amps turn on. It is not a POWER lead. These do not power the amps. Just don't want to see somebody try to power an amp off the head unit. that would be bad.
