Question about capacitors....

Well, right now I'm running two Kenwood amps rated at 1,000 Watts and the second one at 500 Watts. Now, my question is should I run more than one capacitor? I currently have a full farad capacitor to withstand up to 1,000 Watts.

Should I also get another capacitor rated at 1/2 Farad 500 Watts or will I be all right with what I got now?

Thanks

Get a high output alternator instead. Caps are just band-aids for the problem. A high output alt is the cure.

Well, will the "band-aid" hold up?

It depends. If your stereo's current demand on your charging system is just a little more than what it can handle, a cap can help. But if your stereo is drawing way more current than your alt can supply you'll eventually kill your battery. Your battery is supposed to be charging when the engine is running. NOT helping the lat deliver current to the stereo. If you do use a cap but still have dimming lights on loud bass hits you definitely need an HO alternator.

Are you using the 1000W amp on your sub or subs? If you are then you already have all the cap you need. A cap gives the most benefit when connected close to the sub amp. A cap isn't really needed on amps running mids and highs. Assuming thats what the 500W amp is for.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing. My 500W amp is powering 4 6 1/2" speakers, and 1000W is for my 2 12s".

since those are likely the peak ratings of those amps you are likely in the 750 watt range. one farad should be plenty enough band-aid to help.
