Preamp question
i have a question i am currently planning/saving for a total sound system makeover. i plan on ripping out all the old bose 10 speaker system and replace it with 2 12" kicker comp vr's in a q-logic box and two sets of kicker compnents and i plan on using one amp for the subs and one 4 channel amp for the seperates and my question is my head unit has three sets of preamp outputs front/rear/sub. which preamp do i hook up the 4 channel i want to use up to
thanks for the help

Don't buy the Q-Logic, it's trash and WAY overpriced IMO. If you really like the sound of those Kicker's then go with it, I personally would recomend other subs. On the 4 channel you will want to hook up the Front and Rear Imputs if you want to keep you ability to fade.
What speakers are you gonna run?
Are you willing to run components, they will have better quality?
What kinda power/budget are you looking to go with?
If you need any help picking out gear or anything just post up.

well the thing i like about the kicker comp vr's is that they are versetie as far as required air and power for them and i can get 2-12"s for 250 shipped i really like the sound they produce for the money i would spend on them.
what kind of box should i get if the q-logic is all cheap and from where? fiberglass boxes are nice but this is not a show car and that would just be going overbored in my opinion
I really do want the ability to fade it but i was under the impression that 4-channel amps only had one set of rca plugs as far as i know or am i just a noob.
As speakers are going i am pretty set on some kicker components 1 set for the doors and the other set for the rear sail panels again i like the price and sound.
As far as a budget is considered i would like to keep a 2500 salary cap but i know i will go over but i still wanna keep it in that ballpark.
I still need some suggestions for amps i need one for subs about the 800watt range (2ohm stable) and one 4-channel like 4x50 watts should be good enough right now i am leaning twords ma audio cause i can get them really cheap cause i got friends in different places
I still havent set my mind on a head unit though and would like suggestion on that i would like to spend no more than $500 on it and it has to have preouts and some kind of eq right now i am looking at the kenwood brand cause i have had two of them and were very pleased with them.
Any and all suggestions are appriciated and welcomed in advance
thanks

Red is kinda right about the Q-logic. Check out www.subthump.com for a box. Click on "vehicle specific" and then firebird/camaro. And your not getting a great deal on those Vr's. Click here--- Comp VR's --- and you can get them for like 65 a piece. If you wanna pay 250 for a pair of 12"s..... check out a pair of Elemental Designs K-series subs. They will EASILY put the VR's to shame. For amps, since you are thinking about Kicker subs and components..... kicker amps would fit in nicely. They aren't too expensive either. For a head unit, $500 is a great budget. I suggest the Alpine 7897. It's VERY VERY hard to beat for the money. Also check out the Pioneer Premier 940MP with it's 6V RCAs! And a 4-channel amp requires 2 sets of RCA inputs. The front and rear RCA will go to the 4-channel. And the sub RCA to the sub amp. Thought about where you are gonna get your wiring? Check out www.knukonceptz.com and www.darvex.com
The top level Kicker's are pretty cood components. They are a little muddy in the midrange for me though, and their tweeters can be laser beam on axis. I'd suggest checking out the Focal PolyKevlar series, they have great midbass, awsome vocals and very smooth tweets
.
.
Oh and as far as amps are you wanting to go active? With your budget that may be an option, if done right. Passive can produce very good results as well. Have you considered kick panels to run a midrange and maybe your tweeters down low? Are you wanting to run a 30 ch equalizer or just sticking to head unit equalizations?
tex i really do like focal polykevlars but i don't see me spending that much right now ... sounds like a good upgrade down the road
and kick panels i think would look kinda dopey having the ta door with the speaker pods in them and them some kick panels with speakers in them plus i am pretty satisfied with the door mounts
As far as eq goes i wouldn't mind a 1/2 din size one but my experience is that unless u are super serious about ur audio the eq's on the head unit will do just fine
Any other suggestions or comments on my planned set up and speaker choice is welcome and appriciated
FYI as of 10:00 sunday eastern daylight savings time i have bought a alpine 7897

And I guess I can agree with your statement about external EQ's being only for serious car audio guys. I wouldn't say only SUPER serious.... but............ especially with that H/U I think you will be plently happy!!! And if you do decide to get a 1/2 din EQ... check out Audiocontrol.

If it were up to me I'd run a single 12" instead of two and get an amplifier half as powerful in order to afford the Focals. A good front stage is SO worth it.
