Power window/lock poroblems

My daughter recently purchased a 95 camaro (base model). The power locks have never worked, power windows were slow. I just installed a new stereo (didn’t have one before). Now the power windows aren’t working. I checked the 30A breaker/fuse, it’s good. I have power to the lock switch, but not the window switch. Based on other things I’ve read, I thought it right be the RAP, but the radio is working fine and interior lights work Could the radio and interior lights still work if the RAP is bad? Any other suggestions on where I should look/try?

Re: Power window/lock poroblems

Standard or Bose radio?

There are two 12V wires in the harness connector for the radio (plus two more for illumination). To power the radio, there is a yellow wire controlled by the RAP module, and an orange wire that is hot at all times. Is it possible the orange wire is powering the new system?

There are separate relays in the RAP module for the interior lights (Relay 1) and the radio/windows (Relay 2).

Shoebox has the schematics for the RAP module, power locks, power windows, and radio:

4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids

Additionally you can download (free) a copy of the 1995 factory service manual, courtesy of GaryDoug:

Re: Power window/lock poroblems

Thanks. I’m assuming standard radio since it’s a base model, but not 100% sure since everything had been removed before we bought it.

When I installed the radio I found the yellow and orange wires. The yellow is definitely the one that is powering the radio, key has to be on for the radio to work.

That reminds me of another issue I had though. There wasn’t 12v to the radio fuse in the fuse panel and no power to the yellow wire. I ran a jumper from another spot that had 12v ignition power. That makes me think that the RAP is bad since the radio initially didn’t have power, I basically hit wired it. With that in mind, I was getting interior lights, no door locks, no power windows, and no radio. Based on this info, sounds like a bad RAP. Unless I’m missing something.

The power locks can have an added level of complexity if you have remote keyless entry. Adds yet another "module" to the circuitry.

The only way through it all is to study the schematics in the factory service manual, for your specific option combination.

Initially the windows worked, but were very slow, but the locks didn’t. That may explain the lock issue. I’m not sure if it had remote keyless entry or not, didn’t have it when she got it, but it didn’t have a radio either. Someone had gone in a messed with the wiring before. I found some cut wires in the door and also found splices where it looks like an alarm/immobilized had been removed. I’m not that concerned about the locks, she can use her key, but I do need to get the windows working and would like to get the radio working without the jumper in the fuse box,

Re: Power window/lock poroblems

“Slow” windows are a common problem, generally related to failing window motors and gunked up window tracks.

To determine what options were on the car when it left the factory, check the Service Parts Identification label, usually in the glove box on a 95. That will tell you which radio, whether it had keyless entry, etc. There is a list defining the three-character RPO codes in the front of the factory service module.
