Cool Ported or Sealed Woofer box?

I am looking for a box for 2 12" Kickers powered by a Kenwood 1021(I think)

1) Would a seald box sound better than a ported one?

2) or the other way around?

3) What are the major differences? (besides the holes)

I would like to have a deep sounding bass and would like it to hit when it needs to.

Any input would be greatly appreciated..

I kinda depends on the speaker. But if you're gonna get kickers get a box thats ported. I believe if you get a sealed box you won't get the bass you might be expection. You won't be alble to hear the lows. Kickers drop massive bass with the right amplifier. I have a custom built box with 2 kickers. They don't sell it since it custom but I have seen some similar to it. It really hits hard. You won't have to worry much about the bass hit. Our rear windshields help out the bass alot. They give really good bass reflex. Hope this helps. You can check my sig for pics.

I don't like the Kicker subs as the don't have that great of low bass extension and are a little sluggish sounding to me. If you want low bass you might look into a bigger driver like a 15". I prefer RF, MTX and Kicker amps to Kenwood.

A sealed encolsure has tighter, SQ bass. A ported enclosure is a little louder but dies after the tuning freq. and has a tendency to have a little mre loose bass.

Do you have the regular kicker speakers? I have solobarics L7 and they throw down the lows pretty good.

I have enver owned any kicker speakers, this is just observations I've made from other peoples systems. The new 12L7 should be able to play low being as they have the cone area of a 15". But I personally don't like the sound of them.

I am very happy with the way mine sound. Very clean bass. Maybe you haven't heard it with the right system or maybe you have, thats cool. Everybody has different tastes.

That's cool, glad to hear you like your system. And you're right could have been the setup or the vehicle. There's alot of variable that go into getting good bass.

The L7s can put out massive amounts of bass in a sealed box. I think they sound better that way. I imagine they are even louder when ported, but it takes a huge box to make them sound decent and that's a limiting factor in our cars. JMO
