Please help with alarm!!
Please help with alarm!!
first, this is not the real prowler, this is his cousin. Some of you probably know me. I have the 2001 pewter ZR-2 Sonoma with roll bar and lights. I am wanting to buy an alarm for the truck, but I have never installed one before. I would let someone else do it, but when installers install something, they always seem to break someting. (Happened twice) Anyway, I need to know if I just buy an alarm (Auto Security SPY FM - 43025-A ), or do I have to buy any special parts, harnesses, or tools to do this. Also, how long will it take?
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

Uh, we don't have a best buy here. All I have is a couple of audio shops and Wal-Mart. Wally World, no. And the audio shops around here seem to lie as well as break stuff. I went wo one about a radio and amp, and they made it seem like a big deal to hook one up, said it would be a pain in the a$$, but I have been doing it for years, and I am here to say installing audio is about as easy as stealling candy from a baby. But, is there anywhere on the internet or somewhere I can research on how to install one. If they are right about it being a pain of the a$$, then i will pay them double, but i doubt it. If I can pick up on the audio part as easy as I did. I'm sure an alarm can't be all that hard. It may be a pain, but I'm sure I can do it.
Any other ideas or starter help would be appreciated
And by the way, if any one is from monroe, la I might pay someone 50 to 100 for helping. ((((maybe))))

Dont go to Best Buy or Walmart if you want a good job done. How good a alarm is installed is almost entirely up to the installer and Best Buy and Walmart Im sure do not employe the best. I would look into a smaller shop and ask them how experienced they are and how long they have been around. Second the only alarm brand to buy is DEI its the best they control 90% of the market and for a reason. Also if you get a DEI alarm installed by a DEI dealer the alarm and install should have a life-time warranty for as long as you own your vehicle. If your worried about the shop damaging any part of your car they should pay out if there are any problems. Ask them what their policy is on damage claims BEFORE THEY WORK ON YOUR CAR. I work in the car audio industry so I have a good inside scope so PM if you have any more questions.
if u would have read more carefully you would see that i told him to go to best buy to have them tell him the parts he needs
i know i would never have walmart do a alarm install....not even an oil change...
but yeah if u got to any install place and tell them that u want all the parts necessary for the install they will hook you up

I have worked with the best of the best and the worst of the worst. Ive seen it all from great systems to electrical system's going up in flames. We have a great insurance company, and anything damaged will be replaced. The s-series is a farily easy vehicle to complete. Most everything is at the column or the bcm, only thing youll need under the hood would be for the siren and the hood pin and a tach wire (if youre adding a remote start). A great place I have found to mount the siren is behind the grill. The grill shell itself comes off fairly easly, its only held in with 8-10 clips. Theres even a primo spot to go trough the firewall if the truck is an automatic.
Isnt the Sonoma a Highrider, not a ZR2? Heheh...
