Opinions on possible system

I was looking to get a system, nothing big, but enough to add a little bass to my music to make it sound better. After a little looking and talking to a few people, I've come to a decision. I want to get a 10" box made from www.subthump.com (Its a 01 Camaro). The JL Audio 10w3 (maybe 10w3v2, don't know the difference) and I'm guessing a JL Audio 250/1 amp. Does anyone with this setup possibly have any advice or options for me?

Thanks in advance

The 10w3v2 is the current model sub that replaced replaced the previous 10w3. That amp and sub will make for a great setup and will give you what you're after and possibly a little more.

Sounds like a great choice on the stealth/sub. I think that'll add more then a little low end to your music. One note on that amp though. While JL has always been known for providing high quality products to the customer... it's not without a price. As most will tell you, their amp line seems to suffer the most "mark up" for having the JL name. If you're willing to pay more for the name and have overall less power output, then go for it. Some people like to keep one name brand throughout the vehicle.....Otherwise, there are many amps out there that can outpreform the 250/1 and cost less $$$. Before anyone starts recommending different amps, we need to know your final decision on the sub. Also, what voice coil config will it be? 2 ohm? Dual 2 ohm? Etc....

Heh see thats where I just get lost. I was talking to a friend of mine at work about what to get and all, but the 10w3v2 comes in d2, d4, and d6 models which is dual voice coils at 2, 4, and 6 ohms and I have no idea what that means or how that works with the amp, so I'm not too sure at this point which model to order. I don't want anything elaborate, I just want a system to make music sound better and not go thumping around like a 2-12 system or a 15, just want good bass accent.

Read the part about wiring your subwoofer to an amp. See if that teaches you how it works....

Basically, choose which amp you want to use. Then you can pick which voice coil config to buy. Example. If you plan on buying a two channel amp and bridging it to your sub, you'll want the d2 model. Wire the voice coils in series for a final load of 4 ohms. (What most bridged amps are stable to). If you decide to buy a mono amp, you'll probably want the d4 model. Wire the coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load. (d2 if your amp is 1 ohm stable).
If your really set on the 250/1, that's cool. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you buy the equipment. I'd hate to see you not get full power from your amp because you bought the incorrect voice coil config.

This guy at my job is kinda helping me pick some stuff out. But I think I'm going with the 250/1 amp for sure now. So which model will work best with it? The d2, d4, or d6??

Re: Opinions on possible system

LOL. Funny we should be talking about this particular series of amps.....JL Audio's "slash series" of amps uses the R.I.P.S. design. Basically, it has a stiffly regulated power supply that outputs the same power regardless of load or input voltage. So any load 1.5ohm through 4 ohms.... that amp will output max power. SOOOOO, I'd get the d2 version and wire the coils in series for a 4 ohm load.

Why the d2 in series over the d4 in parallel? Because a year or two later, if you ever decide to add a second sub, you'll be able to use a series parallel config and run at a final load of 2 ohms. Vice 4 or 1 ohm with the d4 model. Most people with a pair of subs run a mono amp and 2 ohms is usually the load they need to run at..... get what I'm saying?
