Ok Im ready to start adding some bass

Hey guys Rgiht now i got the upgraded monsoon sound system in my 01 TA. I would liek to get a Clarion VRX935VD head unit (which im hopefully buying used) If anyone know about the life of theses touch screens let me know or if they know of a better one out there taht i can get aorund 1000. Now i would like to keep my existing speakers but jsut add say 2 12's. What all do i need ot make this happen. Since im spending a fortune on the headunit give me the best woofers and amp for the buck. Also waht kind of wiring and stuff will i have to do. Thanks
Tony

if u were planning on going with 2 12's , me personally i would go with jl audio w3v2. they are some really good speakers and they hit real hard. should be able to ge tthem for around 200 off the net somwhere. memphis 1100 would be a great combo for the subs and u get a really goood warranty with the amp. ampo should run anywhere from 350 to 500. but is a lil monye but u willbe very happy with the outcome. then if u want it really loud do a ported box. later

kinda hesitant. ur right. personally it is up to u but, if want to be heard go with 1 or 2 15's. jl audio w3. they are the best speaker man ever made. they sound good too. it is up to u though. if u want to be crazy loud, or sound good and loud.

Ill think about it but How will the stock monsoon system hold up with 2 15's.

a pair of 15's might be a bit much for the stock speakers...

If it were me and you are looking for a good 15, the Elemental Designs 15A is a great choice. It was engineered to go in an absolutly tiny box, and sound fantastic.... $315 and you get a 3 year warranty... the best 15" sub within $120 that i can think of.

pardon me, i'm not too knowledgeable on subs and such but..
it doesn't matter what size they are to sound good right?
i thought 2 10's could sound just as good as 2 12's but the only difference is the frequency they play
the 10s would have a slightly higher frequency making them more noticeable loudwise but still sound good, and 12s would hit lower frequencies making them harder to hear but still sound good also
basically, just the difference in a 12 and a 15 is the frequency they play right? (besides 3 inches )
all depends on what you would want i suppose
15's could hit the superlow notes but 12's sound good to me

well here is the deal. 12's, 10's, 15's 18's.... they can all sound great depending on how they were engineered. If a 15 uses the same motor as a ten and it isn't sufficiently strong to push the added mass of the soft parts it will probably not sound that good, but if it is designed to work well with the added mass it should sound just great....

In my post i stated it the way i did because i was not sure if they used the same motor... Most 8's that i am aware of in the same series as larger subs don't use the same motor, so then all bets are off when making a comparison.... I have never heard a L7 8" so i can only hope that they sound better than their larger counterparts, which were not really designed to sound that great.

rthompson is correct. And no way in hell is the Monsoon system going to be able to keep up with a pair of 15"s. The correct pair of 12"s should be more then enough. Depending on the box, could push into the 150's db. That's more then enough for a daily driver. And the W3 is FAR from the "best speaker man ever made". Not even in the top 25. If money isin't too much of a concern, I vote for a pair of 12" Elemental Designs A-series subwoofers in a vented deep well box. Goosed with 1kWrms and you're all over the 145 mark. Plus, using the A-series, your SQ will be unreal. If that's too much money to spend, go for the K-series powered by a JBL BP1200.1. That's still going to be very loud. Thought about which box you plan on using? As far as wiring goes, www.ebay.com is going to be your best bet. Also, www.knukonceptz.com www.darvex.com www.delcity.net are great.

I'm curious about that box as well, looks really nice. I've seen it and the other two 'stealth' boxes they sell....kinda wondering which box(es) perform better. I've got 2 JL 10w3's I plan on putting in one of their boxes (or both stealths) when the time comes....anyone got any experience with these?

The dual 12 t-top box is extremely popular for that very reason. A couple decent 12s and 1kwatts and you're ballparking mid 140s without breaking a sweat.

Now for somebody with a pair of 10s, I would suggest either the dual stealths or a milhouse box. Performace wise, they are just about equal in sq and spl. The decision would rest more on stealth and how important keeping the spare is
