new sub and used amp...

the car was installed with 14 i think or 12 gauge speaker wires and this is what it was on a 200watt rms powered bazooka, but it was my uncles so he took it back, and now it is a 250 watt rms bazooka with a pioneer 800 peak and 360rms amp, and when i installed it i didnt really notice a difference without them...? my friends brother says to install 4 gauge wires in it, what should i do?
thanks

12 and 14 AWG wire is fine for speaker wiring. 4 AWG power cable is what most people use for their main power cable to the battery. If your power cable is smaller than that I would upgrade it to 4 AWG. What most folks do is run 4 AWG from the battery to a distribution block in back. Then they typically run 8 AWG from the D-block to each amplifier.

It depends on where you want to place the D-block. I think I ran about 15' from my battery to the spare tire area. Then I ran 8 AWG from there to each amp. I'd say 3' to one and about 6' to the other.

I only use one D-block for my + power wire. Some folks also use one for their ground connection as well. I grounded both my amps to the rear hatch release.
