New Radio unit

I have a new radio unit to install in my 1997 Z28. I've searched, but obviously not correctly. The factory radio controls settings for the alarm, dome light delay, etc. What happens with all this when new radio unit is installed? Is there a sticky or tech article somewhere explaining this? The alarm I'm not concerned with really - I hate alarms. I just don't problems with the new radio install causing the alarm to go off all the time or anything. Any input appreciated.

Is this a new GM Replacement or Aftermarket???

GM Replacement should just go right in place, Aftermarket is also pretty easy, you'll just have to pick up a harness that goes from the Radio Plug into the Factory Harness.

If you do that then you should have no issues with the alarm or other electrical problems.

Not factory replacement.

I figured with all the alarm functions and other settings controlled by the radio, it would be a mess - I'll get the adapter harness.

I assume that, if I wanted to change those settings (like dome light delay), that I'd have to plug the old radio back in to change that stuff, huh?

Thanks!

in 1997 the factory radio controlled nothing more than audio to the best of my knowledge. GM began interfacing LAN controls into their cars starting in 2001 which constitutes their true double din radio.. ie 01 impala, 03 blazer/s10, 02 monte carlo... etc.

My 1997 has factory radio, and the radio functions also control the settings for the dimming dome light, factory alarm system settings, headlight auto on and delay features, and some other functions - that's why I had concern.
