new head unit... anything else?

Hi all...

I tried searching for the answer to this, but couldn't quite figure it out, so here goes.

I've got a '95 T/A. all stock stereo. It has 2 speakers in each door (component?), 2 in the panels right behind the front seats, and 2 in each of the side panels in the back. (10 total)

The CD player of my stock radio stopped working, so I want to get a new HU. Somewhere around $200 prefferably. Is there anything I need to get in addition to a new head unit? Is it a complicated install process? And anyone have any good suggestions? Also, can I make my steering wheel controls work with any HU? or do I need something special?

Thanks in advance....

Well, you can get a used stock CD player pretty cheap. This will allow you to keep your steering wheel controls. Or you could buy an aftermarket head unit. No special plugs needed with your stock system. Just your regular dash kit and wiring harness. If you want to keep your controls with an aftermarket head, PAC makes an adapter, but it's like $60 I l think. Model number SWI-X I think.

thanks for the info. I wanna go aftermarket HU. I can just take the old one out, disconnect, and connect and bolt in the new head unit right?

thanks again

Yep. You'll also need an antenna adapter. So that's three things. Antenna adapter, wiring harness and dash kit. If you new headunit is 1.5din, then you don't need the dash kit of course. Here's the link for the PAC SWI-X if you want it.
