need wiring help PLEASE!!

I just bought a new cd player for my 83 camaro but i'm having trouble gettin it to work. the person who owned it before me took all the harnesses off when he put his cd player in so now there are just a bunch of wires everywhere. i managed to figure out the speaker wires but i don't know what to connect the red, yellow and black, and blue wires to. there are a lot of wires coming from the dash of the car. there is a large yellow, small yellow, a red coming from the fuses, an orange from the same area of the large yellow, an orange from the fuses, two black wires, one grounded which i assume is to the black from the stereo, and a gray wire. Now i connected the red to red, yellow to small yellow, black to black, and blue to well nothing cuz i don't have a amp or power ant., but it's weird. it will cut on but the screen lighting is real weak, and the tuner goes crazy. but it worked when i hooked it up like that before. it just started acting like this all of a sudden for some reason. is this hook up wrong? does n e one know how its supposed to go.. please help me.!!!!!!!PLEASE!

Re: need wiring help PLEASE!!

What I did with my 91, I went to Auto Zone and bought a "plug-n-play" adapter. All the wires are color matched to MOST headunits (matched the 2 headunits I've had in my Camaro) and then that adapter just plugs right into the stock plugs.

well heres the thing, i have adapters or harnesses(whatever you call them) to plug into the stereo but the problem is trying to find out what wires from the car go to the adapters so that i can plug it to the cd player. like i said i had it working b4 and then all of a sudden it just screwed up, so i imagine the wires r wrong.

So the colored wires on the adapter do not match the colores wires coming from the headunit you are trying to install?

BTW, what is the brand and model headunit you are trying to install?

I think he means the car's wiring harness is butchered. Did someone cut the wiring up under the dash?

If that is the case, that's bad then.

Re: need wiring help PLEASE!!

yeah. thats right. the guy b4 me apparently cut all the wires behind where the stereo goes, that were needed to use for the other cd player he had, i guess because the harnesses didn't fit. so yeah, theres just a slew of wires everywhere. the harnesses that come with the cd player work fine for the speaker wires, but its the other four i can't figure out. i'm just need to know what wires i need to use and what to hook them up to so that i can use the connectors for the stereo. oh and the cd player isn't anything special, its called duraband i think. its just something to use till i got the money for something i really wanted, cuz the guy took the stereo out b4 he sold it to me. i am so frustrated!!

It is still possible to hook it up, but the wires that plug into the stock headunit are different colors than the ones on a aftermarket headunit except thr ground (black). I KNOW that the 2 orange wires you do not need, those are for the lights on the stock stereo.

Re: need wiring help PLEASE!!

yeah. i figured that too.... but now the one orange wire is coming from the fuse like i said before. so does that mean the red wire comin from the fuse box is pretty much the same as the orange one?

the thing thats got me the most stumped is the way i have it wired now, it worked fine for two days, then all of a sudden, it's how it is now. won't do anything. so i assume its the wiring...... and no its not the fuses.they're fine.

I think Autozone can get the under dash harness. Check them and see. Also see this site: www.installdr.com

Re: need wiring help PLEASE!!

The under dash harnes was what I was talking about, but the factory harness has been destroyed.

Here is what you need to figure out what color wires on the stock harness go to the colored wires on the aftermarket radio harness: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/GM-Wiring.pdf

Hope that helps.
