need some install help

Hey guys, does any body know a forum that helps out with 12 volt installs. I need to wire up the gray wire (neg output) on a DEI 530T to a relay to bypass the shock sensor because the shock sensor tiggers the alarm sometimes. The shock sensor has 4 wires. green is shorter than 0.8 seconds neg multiplex input wire,blue is longer than 0.8 sec multiplex input, and then there is a red 12v constant, and a black ground wire. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Basicly it disables the shock sensor while the 530T is in use. I also need help installing rear 6x9s in a friends 2005 civic, I can't fiquire out how to get to the speakers themselves.

You're going to want to interrupt the red wire for the shock sensor when the 530T is active so cut the red wire for the shock sensor and wire it like this:
85 -- gray (530T)
86 -- +12 volt constant
30 -- one side of cut red shock sensor wire
87a -- other side of cut red shock sensor wire
87 -- N/A

As for the speakers in the honda. Fold the rear seats down, remove b-pillar panels, remove the the 10mm bolt for each outer seat section and lift the sections out, pull the rear deck up and out, and there are your speakers.

if the rear speakers are 6x9s you can often take them out from the trunk side with a pair of pliers.. you can loosen the bolts (plastic nuts on the end) then slide the speakers out and then reattatch the new speakers from underneath.. kind of a PITA but way easier than doing it the other way. this is only if it has 6x9s in the rear.. takes the install from 45 minutes to 15-20 minutes tricks of the trade.

I wired the relay up as such, but it's not working correctly.

Are you sure this is the proper way to wire this up. According to the 530T owners manual, the gray wire "continues to output negative (-) ground for 5 seconds after the windows have stopped."

Well the alarm still goes off from the shock sensor when I use the remote to wind down the windows (same as before). Should the red wire to the shock sensor be hooked up to 87 or 30?

The gray wire on the 530T will show ground when the 530T is activated and continue to show ground for 5 seconds after the windows stop. Are you using a DEI shock sensor? If so, then instead of interrupting the red wire interrupt both the green and blue wires. On the DEI shock sensors the green and blue wires do the same thing. If the alarm sees ground for less than 0.8 seconds on these wires it will give a warning, and if it sees ground for more than 0.8 seconds it will set off the alarm. The only reason there are two wires is for the purpose of wiring in more than one shock sensor. Reconnect the red wire that you cut and cut both the blue and green wires. Then wire the relay like this:

85 -- gray (530T)
86 -- +12 volt constant
30 -- green and blue (shock sensor side)
87a -- green and blue (alarm side)
87 -- N/A

Let me know how that works.

Now I'm really confused


If I understand this right:
85 goes to the gray wire
86 to 12+
30 should go to the red wire to the DEI sensor
87A should go to the red wire to the DEI alarm modual

Why would i interupt the green and blue wires
What I'm trying to accomplish is cutting the power to the sensor when the grey wire is activated, right?
I think I may have the 30 and 87A opposite because the original post didn't specify which red wire went to where.

Or do I wire it up more like this


Where 87 would go the the alarm?

I originally thought that interrupting the red wire going to the shock sensor would disable it, but if the alarm is still going off it is obviously not disabled. So we need to try something else.

It wouldn't matter which way you have 30 and 87a hooked up. This particular type of setup is not directional since all you are doing is simply interrupting a circuit. When the relay is at rest 30 and 87a have continuity, and when it is energized 30 and 87 have continuity.

The green and blue wires show ground when the shock sensor is activated. They output this ground signal to the alarm brain which picks it up and either gives a warning chirp or sets off the alarm depending on if the ground signal is more or less than 0.8 seconds. If you interrupt these wires with the relay, the ground signal that the shock sensor puts out won't be received by the alarm brain and it won't set the alarm off.

So just reconnect the red wire like it was before you cut it, and interrupt the green and blue wires instead.

There seems to be a typo somewhere in there?
I just need the red wire to the the shock sensor, to have no power when the gray wire is active.

It seems to me that the green and blue wires do the same thing. Except the green wire triggers zone 4 and the blue wire triggers zone 2. I'll have to look but should both these wires be connected in the first place? Or should I just choose which zone I want the shock sensor to trigger, and then cut the other wire?

One more question, what happens if I disconnect the 12+ on 86?

Sorry for the confusion, I'll try to break this into parts.

85 and 86 are the negative and positive terminals for the electromagnetic coil in the relay, and are used to energize the relay. When you ground 85 and apply 12 volts to 86 you will hear the relay click. So you want to connect the gray wire to 85 since the gray wire provides ground when the 530T is active. Then connect 86 to any 12 volt constant source. This way the relay always has 12 volt waiting at 86 and when the 530T is activated 85 will see ground and the relay will click. So to answer your question, if you disconnect 12 volts from 86 the relay will never operate or *click*.

Now, your going to use the relay to interrupt the shock sensor when the 530T is active. To understand how this is accomplished you must understand what is going on inside the relay. When the relay is not energized, terminals 30 and 87a will have continuity. However, when the relay is energized it switches the continuity to terminals 30 and 87. Now with that in mind you can see that if you cut your wire and connect one side to 30 and the other side to 87a, the two halves will still have continuity when the relay is not energized and the circuit will function as if there was no relay present. However, as soon as the relay is energized by the 530T's gray wire going to ground, 30 and 87a will NO LONGER have continuity thereby bypassing the shock sensor.

If you connected everything like I first stated and the alarm still goes off, then simply interrupting the red wire is not getting the job done. So we must put it back the way it was and start over.

You are right about the green and blue wires doing the same thing, one reports zone 2 and the other zone 4. If I remember correctly, I don't have a DEI shock sensor in front of me to verify, only the blue wire is connected from the shock sensor to the brain. You'll need to verify this, but I believe DEI leaves the green wire disconnected for the use of adding aditional sensors. If this is the case then you will only need to interrupt the blue wire, but if they are both connected then you will need to interrupt them both.

Now I fully understand what is going on, thanks for the great discription! When I got under the dash with a voltmeter and checked, it was exactly as you described. And it seems that when the shock sensor gets power and the relay goes to "rest", the shock sensor sends a signal through the blue wire to set off the alarm. So I feel confident that you are correct that I need to reconnect the red wire to the shock sensor normally and "interrupt" the blue wire off the shock sensor. As I have run out of connectors, I will make a run to the store and get what I need. I'll let you know what happens.
Thank you so much for putting up with my ignorance on this issue!

Oh, one more question. If the green wire (zone 4) is still attached, you think I should leave it alone and see what happens. Or should I just cut it and not worry about it because the blue wire is handleing all the work?

Edit: The green wire is attached to the sensor and the alarm. I'm gonna leave it alone and see what happens. All of the signals setting off the alarm from the windows and from banging on it are reported as zone 2. I'm guessing DEI leaves the green wire so if you buy a second sensor, it has the green wire already and you would cut the green wire to the "1st" sensor and then cut the blue wire on the "2nd" sensor. Any chance you know how to adjust the sensitivity on the shock sensor?

I think I am begining to see the logic here!!

No problem. It's harder to explain this stuff than you would think. There should be a little **** on the shock sensor itself that you can adjust using a small flat head screwdriver. Turning it counterclockwise is less sensitive and clockwise is more sensitive.

Well I fixed the red wire and hookes up the blue wire to the relay. And all was good, so I put the car back together and......... damn it, zone 2 triggers the alarm again. WTF!! So I played around under the dash for about 45 min, and I finnally found out what the hell is going on. The actual "clicking" of the relay was setting the shock sensor because it was so close and touching the harness the sensor is zipped tied to. So I relocated the relay, and thank god everything works perfectly now. Only thing is, the shock sensor is a little too sensetive. I looked at the sensor as best I could, turning around the harness so I could see the top and sides. I didn't see the flat side though. And the sensor is clear plastic, I haven't seen anything that looks like an adjustment. Is it a **** or little screw type thing? Sorry 1st timer here.

It *should* be a small white **** that is recessed into the shock sensor. If I remember correctly it will be on the side that is opposite of where the harness plugs in.
