Need some help with monsoon installation...

I bought a complete monsoon set minus 1 door speaker and the head unit. He didn't send me the wiring either. Is there any way to retain my aftermarket kenwood cd player along with the monsoon speakers and amp, or do I have to get a monsoon head unit? It doesn't look possible, but i figured i'd ask first...Oh, and I'll probably need the factory monsoon wiring, right? If so, where can it be had cheap?

An aftermarket head unit can be swapped out for a Monsoon head unit with no odd modifications. Replace as you would with any other car.

Thats not what I'm trying to do. I want to keep my kenwood cd player and install the monsoon speakers and amp.

Come on man. If the glass is half empty, then it's also half full.......yes, you can use your kenwood instead of the monsoon.

when we install car audio equipment at work on vw's w/ monsoom systems generally we can only install an aftermarket deck if the harness that plugs into the factory stereo can use the standard scosche harness, usually if it doesnt use the standard harness adapter we have to bypass the factory amp.

thats exactly what I'm talking about, I'm mainly worried about how I'm going to use the monsoon amp with a kenwood cd player...I'm no car audio expert, but the first thing that i noticed is that there are obviously no rca preouts (or whatever they're called) on the monsoon amp...then how can it possibly work? I need to just get outside and check it all out, but its too damn cold I haven't really looked at anything other than the monsoon amp...

I'm telling ya. You can use any aftermarket head unit in place of the monsoon. Just use your everyday wiring harness.... And the monsoon amp uses line level (speaker) inputs, not RCAs.

The Monsoon stereo system is an optional "upgrade" to the stock system. For the camaro's, it consists of:
Front Speakers

6.5" "S" oversized, 2 ohm, located in the lower portion of the doors

.6" 4 ohm tweeters located on the same axis as the 6 1/2 inch. Kinda like a coaxial speaker.

Rear Speakers

4" 4 ohm midrange speakers located in the rear hatch panels

Sail Panel Woofers

6.5" 2 ohm subwoofers located next to the rear seats

8 Channel Amplifer-200w (2000 up is now 500w but you cant tell a difference)

The first 2 channels are actually off of the radio. They power the tweeters located in the doors. The other six channels are in the amplifier located on the passenger side rear wheel well. The amplifier powers the rest of the speakers in the system. For somebody that will never want any more then this, it's probably a good way to go. But for anybody remotely interested in upgrading to aftermarket components, you should rip the whole damn thing out and build from scratch.

Cool thanks for the info. Do all Camaros have the single 6.5 speaker in the back hatch?

The 6.75"s are in the sail panels, which is next to the rear seats. You have 4" under the hatch.

If you had the connector that plugs into the monsoon amp anda wiring diagram from the year car the amp and speakers came from , this would make a ton more sense to you .

I have a factory wiring diagram of a monsoon system in a 2001 TA converible if you wanna have a look see . It wont be exactly what ya need but it'll give a general idea how the factory routes all the wires . If you can read wiring diagrams well get a copy of the wiring diagram for your cars audio and the year/model car the monsoon stuff you got came from . Then go buy a new harness connector for the amp from the dealer ( it will have wire leads ) . Thats all the info youlll need to get it installed . You'll need lots of wire too

....funny Im in the middle of doing this now too on the TA . Im using a monsoon system and double din head unit out of a 03 grand am GT though .
