Need help with rear speakers and seat light on 2002 Pontiac Firebird Convertible
Hey Everyone,
I have a 2002 Firebird Firehawk convertible with a stock Monsoon radio . When I use the fade button on the radio and switch it to the back speakers, located next to the rear seats on the side, there is only a very low amount of treble coming out with the volume turned all the way up and no bass, even with the bass turned all the way up on the equalizer. The speaker does not have any cone damage or burn marks. Both speakers have the same problem
I tested the power at the speakers' connector and it has 4 hot wires going to it that read 3.2 volts (when I ground the voltmeter black probe to the frame). The small door light on the plastic panel by the rear seat doesn't work on the driver side, but does work on the passenger side. The passenger side shows almost 12 volts at both sides of the connector. On the driver side it shows only 12 volts at the blue and white wire and not the white wire, so the light doesn't work.
Should the speaker connector have 4 hot wires running to it with the key on and the radio on? Is there anyway to diagnose what is bad? Is it the speakers, the wiring or the radio itself? Should I try swapping in new speakers? Does anything besides stock work? I know they have a four connector setup.
For the driver side rear seat light, I was thinking about splicing in two wires on the passenger side light and running it to the driver's side. Will that work? It looks like since the white wire is dead, I would have to trace the wire all the way through the harness and I figured it would be easier to just run wiring form the passenger side.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You may find some answers in the factory service manual. The latest (free download) available is 2000. Might be very similar to 2002.

Hey Ronastein, I know this is a bit of an old post but the issue your are having sounds familiar to the issue I just ran into with the Bose system. In my case I have a single line running to my speakers from the head unit, and the speakers are two channels with a tweeter and woofer (Called a Coaxial Speaker). The Woofer portion had died while the tweeter kept working, which led to the same symptoms you had. Replacing the speaker was the only fix.
Since you have a monsoons system you may have a different issue if say you have component speakers (tweeters run on a seperate line than the woofer and/or Amps in the mix), but an easy way to check would be to see if you have coaxial speakers too (Tweeter and woofer, with one pair of wires to it). If so just replace the speaker with a new coax speaker of the same size (mine was 6.5").
