Need 12inch sub for stealthbox.
Need 12inch sub for stealthbox.
I have a 12inch stealthbox built for my trans am. It is between .7 and 1.0 cubic feet. (Yes, that is corret, it is built for a 12 inch but I could rebuild it into a 10 inch box)
I have this amp: Sony XM-SD61X
300 watts @ 4ohms rms, 600 watts @ 2 ohms rms
Now I need a Sub. I originally had a 12inch kicker competition in the box with a lanzar vibe amp. So i was thinking about going with a comp VR 12'' sub this time.
Should i go with the Kicker comp vr or should I pick something else?

Re: Need 12inch sub for stealthbox.
The new Comp VR's are amazing! I highly recommend them. I am running 2 in my GTA in a 1.0 cubed box, sealed with an Orion XTR 1000D and they will pound. Deep, tight bass and the speaker is built better than any other comparable 12 on the market!
Re: Need 12inch sub for stealthbox.
I built the box myself and I built it around a 12'' sub I had at the time. It was hard but there is definentally enough room for a 12 that isnt very deep. Im not sure if it is a good idea to use a 10 or 12 though with this small a box, can anyone chime in?
Re: Need 12inch sub for stealthbox.
Different subs are designed for different sized enclosures. Some do great and are manufacturer recommended for small boxes, others need larger boxes. A comp VR 12" sub is recommended to go no lower than 1 cubic foot in a sealed enclosure. The 10" version is rated for no less than .8 cubes. If you have your heart set on a VR, you could probably eek the 12", but wouldn't get maximum performance from it, the 10 would probably sound better.
For a little more, may i suggest an Image Dynamics IDQ 12"? They are a few bucks more than the kicker, but will go down to almost half a cube, with a max of 1.0 cubes. I think it'd be a better fit for your car, plus they have a better efficiency than a comp vr. This means you will need less power to get to the same volume level. They handle a smidgen less power on paper than a comp, but will outperform it because it can get just as loud with less power.
SQ is a matter of opinion, but i've heard both and i feel the ID's are a bit more accurate than the comps.
Check 'em out at least
