Monsoon Upgrades?

Hi--

I've got a 2002 Camaro SS with the (ahem) 500-watt Monsoon Sound System. It is not meeting my expectations, I have some speaker distortion and lack of clarity. (I know, get a new hearing aid, one that is not diesel powered). Has anybody upgraded the speakers of their Monsoon? If so, how does it sound, what was the cost, etc. Thanks in advance.

When it comes to the POS Monsoon it's best to replace ALL of it or don't even bother. The HU puts out tons of distortion on it's own. The amp has speaker level inputs so it is amplifying the distortion from the HU and making matters even worse. This is why the factory speakers are blowing ALL the time.

Could "tons of distortion" be expressed like a % THD? I noticed your sig, what do you recommend for good replacement pieces? And any idea about the cost? Oh, and would the steering wheel controls still work? I couldn't LIVE without them! (Let alone drive.)

Re: Monsoon Upgrades?

Whatever the THD is, it's WAY TOO high. Just about anything on the market would be an upgrade compared to the POS Monsoon. How much it will cost to replace it is entirely up to you and what you want from your system.

To keep your steering wheel controls all you have to do is buy an HU that uses an infrared remote control and a PAC SWI-X steering wheel interface adapter. Do a search on this form and you'll find all the info you need.
