Monsoon Stereo

Recently bought an 02" SS, most of the interior speakers are blown (mostly my fault). Seeing is anyone knows the power on the factory stock amp on the monsoon system. Trying to figure out how high RMS and maximum wattage i need to get for the 6 3/4 inch speakers for the front door and trunk, and the 4 inch back seat speakers.

This is very general/a guess:

50 watts to the hatch
150 for the doors
300 for the "subs"

--at least that's a reasonably logic assumption...

----------

**150 for the doors / 2 = 75 watts peak (MAYBE...probably less) per door
(If we guess (75 watts)(.5) for a very rough RMS value....we would get 37.5 watts RMS per door)

**150 per sail panel speaker, so between 60-80wrms

**50 to the hatch, rms 15-25

==============================

Who knows - all they give is what they claim to be "peak" values.....some believe them to be peak, some believe them to be too generous..

You'll have to replace the headunit if you want to go with anything aftermarket. Something about the stock amp not powering things right, so it makes the speakers max out at a very low range.

not necessarily......(as far as I know) - if there is any truth to that, it is the fact that the factory Delco HU puts out a lot of distortion, so you might not want to play your music as loud as possible with the factory HU.

Oh I just re-read what you said -- you do not need to replace the HU to upgrade speakers -- the power loss will be made up with more efficient speakers, so the impedance difference should not be a concern. --also, replacing the HU would not help that....it is the amp -unless you meant you will have to replace the HU to power the speakers rather than the factory amp power them -- either way, it is not necessary.
